Ellen Barkin Reacts to Shocking 'Animal Kingdom' Exit

Ellen Barkin‘s time on Animal Kingdom has come to an end – and she doesn’t seem too happy about it.

On the latest episode, the 65-year-old actress’ character Janine “Smurf” Cody had died after four seasons of helping running the Cody crime family.

Fans quickly took to Twitter to voice their displeasure in the showrunner and Ellen‘s character’s fate.

“John Wells is lying to the audience just tell us the truth why Ellen Barkin was let go. Barkin is an incredible actress and the star of the show,” one fan tweeted. “Killing the star of a series will seal the fate. It will probably get cancelled next season. Ellen deserved so much better than this.”

The fans weren’t the only ones upset with the shocking twist – Ellen even went on to like a few of these tweets before addressing her exit.

Next episode Smurf’s will is opened. She left her boys a hit tv show. 😘,” Ellen Barkin tweeted. “Carry on Codys…well, maybe not all Codys.”

New episodes of Animal Kingdom air on Tuesday nights at 9pm ET on TNT.
