Celebs & Politicians Call for Goya Boycott After CEO Praises Trump
People on Twitter, including celebrities and politicians, are calling for a boycott of Goya Foods after the company’s CEO Robert Unanue praised President Trump during a visit to the White House.
Unanue gave a speech in the Rose Garden on Thursday (July 9) and he said the country is “blessed” to have Trump running the country right now.
“We’re all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder,” he said. “We have an incredible builder. And we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president, and we pray for our country — that we will continue to prosper and to grow.”
Unanue‘s comments are facing a lot of criticsm as Goya has many Hispanic customers and Trump has not had a strong relationship with the Hispanic community throughout his presidency. He has described immigrants from Mexico as “rapists” and “criminals.”
Celebrities like Chrissy Teigen, Pitch Perfect‘s Chrissie Fit and Hamilton‘s Javier Munoz, as well as politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Julian Castro, have spoken out against Goya.
FUUUUUUUCK. A shame. Don’t care how good the beans taste though. Bye bye. https://t.co/xV7U0UO8CY

Pa fuera con Goya! I have no patience for the ignorance of my own community. Robert's father fled a country with a cruel and deadly dictator (Castro) and now his son is praising a wannabe dictator (Trump). Que come mierda! https://t.co/U9lvvzq3nq

.@GoyaFoods has been a staple of so many Latino households for generations.
Now their CEO, Bob Unanue, is praising a president who villainizes and maliciously attacks Latinos for political gain. Americans should think twice before buying their products. #Goyaway https://t.co/lZDQlK6TcU
