John Leguizamo Is Boycotting The Emmys 2020; Says There's No Point For Him To See It

John Leguizamo will not be watching the 2020 Emmy Awards this weekend for a very specific reason.

Speaking with Yahoo, the 56-year-old When They See Us actor revealed that there’s no point in him taking the time out to watch the awards while there is only one Hispanic nominee.

“I’m boycotting,” he shared. “If you don’t have Latin people, there’s no reason for me to see it. What’s the point?”

John added that he’s disappointed in the Television Academy for not recognizing more Hispanic and Latinx actors for the prestigious award show.

“It’s unbelievable that our stories aren’t being told and there’s one reason for that. Executives don’t see us, don’t get us [and] don’t care about us. We’re less than one percent of the stories being told by Hollywood streamers and networks, that’s cultural apartheid.”

The lone Hispanic/Latinx nominee is Alexis Bledel, who is of Mexican and Argentinian descent. She’s nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale.

If you didn’t see, find out how the awards will be passed out to winners at this weekend’s virtual ceremonies…
