The Bachelorette's Mike Johnson Opens Up About His Experience with Sexual Assault

Mike Johnson has opened up about the sexual assault that occurred when he was a very young boy in his debut book, “Making the Love You Want”.

The 32-year-old former Bachelorette star revealed in the introduction to the new book that he was assaulted by his babysitter while his family was living in Germany when he was five years old.

“My memories of fighting her off me and exploding out the front door to get away are still vivid,” he wrote. “Although I knew that what happened to me should never happen to any child, I couldn’t help but think something was wrong with me.”

Mike also revealed that he didn’t tell his mom about the incident until he made the decision to write the book.

“I knew she would feel as if she was wrong, and I don’t want her to ever feel that way because there’s nothing she could have done,” he told People. “I wanted to protect her.”

Mike continues on, revealing that he has spoken about it more openly with his friends about the incident.

“When you talk about it, you gain strength,” he explains. “It was comforting … after those deep, vulnerable conversations, you’d be surprised how much your bond grows.”
