Jeannie Mai Drops Out of 'Dancing With the Stars' Amid Hospitalization

Jeannie Mai is withdrawing from Dancing With the Stars early.

The 41-year-old TV host is leaving the reality TV competition series after being hospitalized with epiglottis, a potentially life-threatening inflammatory condition that can cause swelling and block airflow to the lungs, ABC reported on Monday (November 2).

“My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery. I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here. I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come,” she said in a statement to Good Morning America.

Jeannie was competing with pro dancer Brandon Armstrong on the show. Now, just one contestant will be sent home this week due to her exit.

Jeannie has inspired us, along with millions of fans, with her energy and dedication. We wish her a full and speedy recovery. Since Jeannie had to withdraw from the competition, tonight’s show will feature the eight remaining couples and a single elimination,” the show said in a statement.

We are wishing the best to Jeannie in her recovery.

One competitor just earned the season’s first perfect score.
