'Home Alone' Director Slams Disney+ For Rebooting The Movie Into A Television Series: 'What's The Point?'

The director of Home Alone has an unpopular opinion about Disney+’s upcoming series.

Chris Columbus opened up to Insider about the bold move of rebooting the instant Christmas classic movie that came out in 1990, and revealed he’s not a fan of the idea of rebooting it for a series at all.

“It’s a waste of time as far as I’m concerned. What’s the point?” he shared. “I’m a firm believer that you don’t remake films that have had the longevity of Home Alone.”

Chris continued on saying that “you’re not going to create lightning in a bottle again. It’s just not going to happen. So why do it? It’s like doing a paint-by-numbers version of a Disney animated film — a live-action version of that.”

He added, “What’s the point? It’s been done. Do your own thing. Even if you fail miserably, at least you have come up with something original.”

Disney+, like many other networks, have been fans of rebooting things of the past, like Gossip Girl, Saved By The Bell, and even The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (although the latter comes with a twist).

Home Alone, which starred Macaulay Culkin, Daniel Stern, Joe Pesci and Catherine O’Hara, made bank at the box office when it premiered and spawned two more big screen movies. There were also several made-for-tv prequels to the series as well.

Earlier this year, Macaulay started to freak people out with his Home Alone inspired face mask. See why here…
