President-Elect Joe Biden is Asking People to Watch His Inauguration From Home Amid Pandemic

President-Elect Joe Biden is asking for people to stay home on Inauguration Day.

Organizers for the upcoming Inauguration on January 21, 2021 are asking people to not attend the event in Washington, DC and instead watch the ceremony from home amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In contrast to previous Inaugurations, Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris will instead be sworn in to office in front of Congress members and a limited crowd.

Biden will still be given in inaugural speech, but other aspects of the event will be “re-imagined” out of public health concern.

“The ceremony’s footprint will be extremely limited, and the parade that follows will be reimagined. The [inaugural committee] is urging the public to refrain from any travel and participate in the inaugural activities from home,” organizers said in a statement via People.

Biden and Harris will take their oaths of office at the Capitol as in tradition, but the event will take place with “vigorous health and safety protocols.”
