Broadway's 'Mean Girls' Musical Is Officially Closed, Will Not Return When Shows Re-Open

The producers of the Broadway musical Mean Girls have announced that the show will not re-open when shows are allowed to return after the pandemic.

The hit musical opened in early 2018 and played over 800 performances on Broadway. It’s final performance was on March 11, 2020.

Tina Fey, who wrote the movie version of Mean Girls and starred in the film, wrote the Broadway show as well and received a Tony Award nomination for her work.

Sabrina Carpenter joined the show as lead character Cady Heron on March 10, 2020 and only got to appear in the show two times before it was shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The producers said, “We’ll see you soon on our National Tour, which resumes performances this summer, and in the upcoming film adaptation from Paramount Pictures.”

Another hit musical surprised fans by announcing an early closing amid the pandemic.
