Two DC Comics Movies Have Been Canceled By the Studio

DC Films, the studio that is behind the DC Comics movies, has announced that two previously planned movies will not be moving forward.

The news comes just one week after the CEO of WarnerMedia confirmed that the “Snyder-verse” has officially ended after the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, closing the door for the beloved filmmaker to continue his franchise.

Now, two more beloved filmmakers who were scheduled to work on DC movies are no longer making those films.

Ava DuVernay‘s New Gods adaptation and James Wan‘s The Trench adaptation have both been canceled by Warner Bros.

New Gods, which was being written by Tom King, was set to follow the “Fourth World” characters, including Darkseid. That villain was featured in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

After Darkseid actor Ray Porter told fans to stop pestering Ava, she tweeted the below statement.

Warner Bros. released a statement and confirmed that if the projects are ever revived, than these filmmakers will continue with the projects.

“As part of our DC slate, some legacy development titles including New Gods and The Trench will not be moving forward,” the studio said in a statement (via Variety). “We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration during this process and look forward to our continued partnership with them on other DC stories. The projects will remain in their skillful hands if they were to move forward in the future.”
