Andra Day Reveals She Battled Porn & Sex Addiction Before Portraying Billie Holiday

Andra Day is opening up.

In a new interview InStyle, the 36-year-old entertainer revealed that she suffered from porn and sex addiction before taking on the role of Billie Holiday in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, for which she won a Golden Globe for her performance.

“I didn’t want any element of sexualization,” Andra said of her portrayal of the iconic jazz singer.

“I had come out of something in my own life — dealing with porn addiction, sex addiction,” Andra continued. “I’m being very, very candid with you because I’m not the only one. But I knew I wanted all of that very much gone.”

Andra then added that she is now “outside of the addiction.”

“I feel now, after playing Billie, that I’m honoring her, and the strength that is femininity,” Andra shared. “I’m definitely in a healthier place to enjoy that because I’m outside of the addiction, if you will. So, yeah, it’s been really fun, because it’s been very new for me.”

Also in the interview, Andra Day talked about losing 40lbs for The United States vs. Billie Holiday.
