Hailee Steinfeld Closes TIFF With 'Edge of Seventeen' Premiere

Hailee Steinfeld wows in a patchwork-like red gown for the premiere of Edge of Seventeen, during the 2016 Toronto Film Festival held at Roy Thomson Hall on Saturday night (September 17) in Toronto, Canada.

The 19-year-old actress met up with co-stars Haley Lu Richardson, Woody Harrelson, Hayden Szeto, and Blake Jenner on the red carpet for the closing ceremony.

Hailee‘s BFF Bailee Madison, Haley‘s boyfriend Brett Dier and Blake‘s wife, actress Melissa Benoist also came out to support them.

“She just had to be so many things that were antithetical in a lot of ways,” director Kelly Fremon Craig shared about casting Hailee in the lead role. “Really tough, but also really fragile, and be able to completely nail the comedy but also slay you with how vulnerable and insecure and how much pain she’s in. And the thing that just amazed me is she could do that on a dime.”

She added, “She could go from a funny moment to a moment that just killed me. She was making things alive in a way that I just felt like I’m constantly witnessing something miraculous,” said the writer/director, who emphasized that none of the story points were autobiographical.”

FYI: Hailee is wearing a Balmain dress. Melissa is wearing a Preen dress with a Swarovski bag and jewelry.

Michelle Rodriguez & Sigourney Weaver Defend Their Controversial Film '(re)Assignment' At TIFF 2016!

Michelle Rodriguez rocks an all black ensemble while attending the premiere of her latest film (re)Assignment held during 2016 Toronto International Film Festival at Ryerson Theatre on Wednesday (September 14) in Toronto, Canada.

The 38-year-old actress was joined by her co-stars Sigourney Weaver and Adrian Hough, as well as Walter Hill.

(re)Assignment stars Michelle as an assassin named Frank Kitchen. After killing the brother of a brilliant but deranged surgeon, Kitchen is captured and awakes to find himself unwillingly turned into a woman.

At the event, Michelle and Sigourney came to the film’s defense after it received harsh criticism in the transgender community, who said the medical procedure should not be used as a sensationalistic plot device.

“Are they mad that somebody decided to take their branded transgender operation and use it on heterosexual people?,” Michelle expressed. “It’s a B-movie noir genre comic book take on something. I’m bisexual. I do guys. I do girls. You can’t really argue with me because I’m you. So if I do a movie, I’d never do a movie with the intention of offending anybody in the LGBT community because I’m a part of it.”

“Certainly no-one is demeaned or denigrated,” Sigourney added. “It’s not a Disney movie. It is noir.”

Heheheh at TIFF promoting 'TomBoy A Revengers Tale' producers are convinced the new movie title should be re-assignment but I'll stick to the title I signed on to shoot… 'Tomboy'. It's in the B Movie genre, a culture shock pic, shot like a 'film Noir' graphic novel. I played a male assassin for four days in the movie, boy was that beard itchy. Then out revenge, a twisted Doctor played by Sigourney Weaver decides to take my character's manhood away with a sex change to teach him a lesson. I never felt more like a woman than when I played a man. For the rest of the film I was a man stuck in a newly operated sex changed body. I had fake boob covers to look like man implants & I wore a fake hairy 'mangina' which you can't really see cause they made it so hairy. In retrospect I'm I glad took the plunge, the industry seems to be running low on edgy creativity & 'real take a chance' controversy, sometimes it makes me want to scream, instead I did what I always do when I'm bored with the 'status quo', I shot crazy b movie Indy to express my frustration. I wish I had more than a few weeks to prepare for this flic, I would have gained a lot more weight, & we would have made some hairy arms to match my Mediterranean look. I feel that my skinny build sometimes comes off hermaphoditic in the film, especially when you add the crazy male chest for the nude sequences. Lol hope y'all will enjoy the flic sometime, when we sell it of course… It's interesting to say the least.
