Andrew Rannells & Jimmy Fallon Recap 2020 with a Musical - Watch Now!

Andrew Rannells and Jimmy Fallon are looking back at the mess that was 2020.

The 42-year-old Boys in the Band actor stopped The Tonight Show on Monday (December 7) to recap the year with the help of Broadway songs.

In their musical sketch, Andrew and Jimmy sing about the pandemic, self-isolating at home, spending too much time on the game Animal Crossing.

“2020, oh what a journey,” Jimmy started. “How has one year felt like 30?” He then breaks in to songs with lyrics that included activities that we weren’t able to do because of the pandemic, like “seeing a concert,” “shopping for bedding” and attending a family reunion on a Disney cruise.

Andrew then joins in singing about Zoom meeting: “On top I’m dressed, waist down I’m a mess, I’m ready to work from home.”

“I think that I’m losing my sanity… I gotta leave this house,” the two sing together.

Set to tune of “Memory” from Cats, Jimmy sings: “Memories, drinking lattes at Starbucks…Sitting crammed into tables, with nowhere to put my arms.”

The recap musical also included the election, Moderna vaccine and attending outdoor birthday parties.

“When 2020 started it was supposed to be my year,” Andrew sings. “So, what happened? Took a shower once a month, while trembling in fear, God what happened? A Virus that infects the entire world.”

Broadway Stars Come Together in Times Square, Shutdown to Extend to Mid-2021

So many great Broadway stars came together in New York City this week to film a performance to give people hope for the return of live theater!

Bernadette Peters and Andrew Rannells were among the stars who participated in NYCNext’s A Moment for Broadway event on Wednesday (October 7) in NYC’s Times Square.

Also in attendance were Gavin Creel, Telly Leung, Carolee Carmello, Norm Lewis, Javier Munoz, Joel Grey, Eden Espinosa, Sierra Boggess, Kate Baldwin, Stark Sands, Jennifer Damiano, Ari’el Stachel, Andrea Burns, among others.

Some unfortunate news was just revealed about Broadway.

NBC New York is reporting that the Broadway League is going to announce on Friday that Broadway will not return until May 30, 2021, at the earliest.

Broadway shows have been shut down since March 13, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The shutdown was supposed to end in January 2021, but now will be extended as the pandemic is still not under control and it’s not safe for thousands of people to sit in an indoor theater together.

The productions that come back to Broadway will return across a series of rolling dates.
