Andrew Yang Gets Emotional When Defending His Decision to Rehome His Dog

Andrew Yang is responding to criticism about rehoming his dog.

The 46-year-old politician came under fire on Sunday (April 11) after tweeting a photo of his former dog, Grizzly, on National Pet Day.

He explained in the tweets that he and his wife Evelyn had to give Grizzly away due to one of their sons developing an allergy to the dog.

“On #NationalPetsDay celebrating our dog Grizzly who we raised as a puppy but had to give away because one of our boys became allergic to him. Miss you Grizz!” he wrote.

Marvel Actor Simu Liu Rejects Andrew Yang's Message to Asian Americans

Simu Liu will become a household name for Marvel fans next year when his upcoming movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is released and he also stars in the Netflix series Kim’s Convenience.

The 30-year-old actor, who was born in China and grew up in Canada, took to Twitter on Thursday (April 2) to respond to a statement made by former U.S. Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang.

Yang spoke out about the racial hostility towards Asian-Americans during the current pandemic.

“We Asian Americans need to embrace and show our American-ness in ways we never have before. We need to step up, help our neighbors, donate gear, vote, wear red white and blue, volunteer, fund aid organizations, and do everything in our power to accelerate the end of this crisis,” he wrote in a Washington Post piece. “We should show without a shadow of a doubt that we are Americans who will do our part for our country in this time of need. Demonstrate that we are part of the solution. We are not the virus, but we can be part of the cure.”

Simu was not supportive of this statement at all.

“That’s a no for me, dawg,” Simu wrote on Twitter. “At a time where Asian diaspora from around the world are experiencing massive racism and discrimination, @AndrewYang basically just told us to suck it up, eat a cheeseburger and buy an American flag. Our community unequivocally rejects this piece.”

Simu later added, “Clarifying tweet: I wholeheartedly support the idea that all of us (human beings) step up in this time of crisis and do our part. Andrew‘s angle is, however, horribly misguided and tone-deaf. I know he can and will do better in the future.”
