Jesse Williams and his ex-wife Aryn Drake-Lee split back in 2017 and they finalized their divorce in 2020, but they are still in the middle of a messy custody battle.
The former couple, who were together for over 10 years, share daughter Sadie, 8, and son Maceo, 7.
When Jesse starred on Broadway in the play Take Me Out earlier this year, a custody arrangement was reached for the kids to visit him in New York City on four consecutive days a month.
Now, there’s a new custody battle happening.

Aryn Drake-Lee is speaking out about her divorce from Grey’s Anatomy‘s Jesse Williams and what went down after their April 2017 separation.
“When the divorce process started I had two nursing babies, and I am the one that ran our household for the 14 and a half years that he and I were together in the same house. And for our children, and for the creation of the businesses that we built together when I left my career in New York for us to move to California to pursue his, and then as a result built it…I knew, as the one that was really holding it all together, that I didn’t have a lot of room to fall, even though I was falling,” Aryn told People.
“I was in a place where I needed the support that was going to help to ground me. Most everybody I had spent the eight years here in LA with all went with him,” Aryn said. “It was a blessing in disguise because it was a real slap in the face to see who was around us and why, and at that point it became very clear. And it cleared a pathway for me to make a shift and get back onto a path that was more in alignment with how I wanted to live my life.”
She continued, “Hollywood and I bump heads. It was never my value system, and it was never something that I was striving for. It never felt comfortable for me because of how superficial it was. And then that all became abundantly clear when everybody went left.”
Now, things are different for Aryn, who said, “I was able to really find people that were more in alignment with my values in how they are living their lives and how they want to raise their children. I found community.”
And as for all the reports surrounding the drama in their current relationship, she said, “Much of what they say is wrong. But I’m not interested in a tit-for-tat, because that’s just never ending. People believe what they want to believe because it’s easy.”
In addition to talking about her split from the Grey’s Anatomy star, Aryn also spoke about starting the new podcast BBSARETRASH (Babies Are Trash) with a fellow mom pal.
Jesse and Aryn have two children together: Sadie, 5 and Maceo, 3.
Jesse Williams is asking not to pay ex-wife Aryn Drake-Lee‘s legal fees.
The 37-year-old actor filed papers to deny his ex-wife’s motion requesting that he pay her $200,000 towards legal fees in their ongoing divorce case, according to The Blast on Tuesday (April 30).

In the paperwork, Jesse claims that he has already paid $270,000 in her legal bills and also accuses her of spending support payments on artwork rather than lawyers.
“This is not a free ride,” he reportedly states in the documents.
Jesse and Aryn split after five years of marriage in 2017. They have two children together.

Jesse has reportedly been fighting for joint physical and legal custody of their children – Sadie, 4, and Maceo, 21 months.
“I was in a relationship 13 years, 13 real years, not 5 years, not 7 years, 13 years,” Jesse said in Jay Z‘s “Footnotes for 4:44” video (via E! News).
“All of a sudden mother f–kers are writing think-pieces that I somehow threw a 13-year relationship – like thee most painful experience I’ve had in my life like with a person I’ve loved with all of my heart – that I threw a person and my family in the trash because a girl I work with is cute,” he added.

The 35-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star and his wife amicably filed for divorce last week after nearly five years of marriage.

The duo shares two kids together: Sadie, 3, and Maceo, 18 months.
Jesse has also reportedly asked the court to deny Aryn spousal support. They allegedly do not have a prenup.
