Big Sean Denies 'IDFWU' Is About Late Ex Naya Rivera: 'It Wasn't a Diss to Her'

Big Sean was asked about his infamous song “IDFWU,” which many fans believed to be about his 2014 breakup with the late Naya Rivera, who tragically passed away at the young age of 33 in July.

“If I may ask, do you regret making “IDFWU,” a song that many interpreted as being about your ex, the late Naya Rivera?,” Vulture asked Big Sean in a new interview.

“That’s a tough question to answer because I’m still processing a lot of that … I don’t feel comfortable talking about it because I want to respect her. She’s made such an impact on people, and she’s done so many great things in her life and her career that it was hurtful to even have that [song] be associated with her,” Big Sean said. “It wasn’t a diss to her. I truly made the song and played it for her. She knew about it, and she liked it. We had a breakup that was very public, and we were young and we forgave each other and moved on from that. If I would have known something this tragic would have happened, I would have never made the song.”

Naya actually went on to perform the song live once.

Big Sean payed tribute to Naya after she passed away and you can read what he said right here.

Big Sean Says He Cherishes Everything That Happened Between Him & Naya Rivera in Touching Tribute

Big Sean has broken his silence about Naya Rivera‘s death.

If you don’t know, Sean and Naya were once engaged to be married, before ending their relationship in 2014, amid rumors that he cheated on her.

She then married her ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey, on the same day she was supposed to marry Sean.

“Rest In Peace Naya, God Bless your Soul!” Sean wrote in a tribute on Instagram. “Thank you for blessing us all with your talent and presence.”

He continued, “You are a hero! Not just because of how you saved your son, also because of the barriers you knocked down for so many people to make them feel confident in themselves and to stand tall and be proud when they couldn’t achieve that on their own.”

“I appreciate and cherish everything that ever happened between us for making me wiser and a better person,” Sean added. “I’m still grieving and in shock, I can’t believe this is real. I’m praying for you and your family and I know your watching over them and protecting them.”

Sean was seen liking tweets amid the search for her when she was missing last week.

Big Sean Admits He Doesn't Feel Equal or Free As a Black Man in America in Emotional Video

Big Sean is opening up in a new video about how he really feels about being a black man in America.

The 32-year-old “Single Again” musician got candid in the video he shared to Instagram in response to the protests going on around the nation, following the senseless murders of countless other Black people including Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.

“Clearly we got the whole world’s attention, obviously,” he said. “And justice has to be served. Period. And if it’s not, I don’t think things are going to change or get better.”

Sean continued, “I know I been protesting, I know a lot of us been out on the streets protesting, and it’s been a lot of unity, but I also see a lot of people with ulterior motives that look like undercover cops. I don’t know if they are undercover cops, but like, you know, starting a lot of the conflict, a lot of the issues. And we’ve all seen places where they’ve got them bricks conveniently located to wreak havoc, and I don’t know what the ulterior motive is.”

“I don’t know if it’s to make us look like we wild beasts or don’t have control, but we clearly are not wild beasts. We’re extraordinary, talented magical people that if you took us out of the equation, the world would be very, very bland.”

Sean added that he doesn’t “feel equal and I don’t feel free. Of course let’s speak up and be heard, but things have to change.”

Big Sean Finally Addresses Kendrick Lamar 'Feud' - Watch! (Video)

Big Sean is speaking out about his alleged feud with Kendrick Lamar.

The 31-year-old rapper made an appearance on Joe Budden‘s Pull Up series, which aired on Sunday (February 16).

PHOTOS: Check out the latest pics of Big Sean

Back in 2015, Sean released his “Me, Myself & I” freestyle, which alleged had subliminal digs at Kendrick, which he later denied.

“One of the people that, especially after Nipsey [Hussle] died was important for me to connect with was Kendrick. Me and Kendrick got a history…a relationship as peers. When this whole Big Sean, Kendrick beef was going on, it was something I wish I would have spoken up [on],” he said.

“I remember going online and seeing like, ‘Oh, is he talking about Kendrick?’ ‘Cause I’m talking about people who rap fast…I wasn’t beefing with nobody. I’m just rapping n–a. It wasn’t like a specific person or else I would’ve said his name.”

He went on to explain that the two continued to generate headlines with alleged digs in their songs.

“Every verse I do, people be like, ‘Oh is this a response? Is this a response?’ And I’m like, ‘Damn I can’t even show no aggression, people think it’s a damn response.’ It got to a point where somehow it was just a weird tension between me and him even though it was already said it wasn’t no beef. People made it that way,” he explained.

“Fast forward, I let this s–t go. He let that s–t go—he never talked about it. And I never talked about it and I should’ve said something, bro. I should’ve just came out and been like, ‘Naw, that ain’t it’…but I didn’t. I was working on this song with Nip and then Nip passed. I have a show for J. Cole‘s festival. I’m sitting next to Punch from TDE. He like, ‘Bro, wassup—you ever holler at Kendrick?’ I damn near [had] put it on the back burner in my brain. I’m like, ‘Damn, no I never did. And he’s like, ‘Man, you should definitely holler at him.’ Got his number and we communicated. The respect is mutual. It was literally nothing.”
