'The Equalizer 3' Makes Second Best Labor Day Opening in Box Office History

The Equalizer 3 is making a big splash in its opening weekend!

The action movie directed by Antoine Fuqua stars Denzel Washington, Dakota Fanning, and Eugenio Mastrandrea. In the film, Denzel‘s character, Robert McCall, reconciles his dark past and makes new allies in Southern Italy while taking on local crime bosses.

The Equalizer 3 will reach $42 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend (Sept. 1-4), which is the second-best opening of the holiday weekend in box office history.

National Cinema Day Is This Weekend - Find Out How to Get Movie Tickets for $4!

National Cinema Day is back!

The annual offering of discounted movie tickets, started by The Cinema Foundation last year, lasts for one day only, and it’s happening this weekend on Sunday (August 27).

On that day, tickets at over 3,000 participating theaters across the country will be only $4.

The sale applies to recently released films like Blue Beetle, Barbie, Oppenheimer (IMAX and other premium formats are included), Strays, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and more, plus this week’s new releases Gran Turismo, Bottoms and Golda.

'Blue Beetle' Debuts at Box Office & the Numbers Are In - Top 5 Movies Revealed!

The DC Comics movie hit theaters on August 18, and finds Cobra Kai actor Xolo Maridueña starring as the title character.

The movie traces the origin story of how Blue Beetle came to be.

'Barbenheimer' Week 4: 'Barbie' & 'Oppenheimer' Fourth Weekend Box Office Numbers Revealed & 'Last Voyage of the Demeter' Debuts!

Barbie and Oppenheimer are continuing to reign as “Barbenheimer.”

The Greta Gerwig-directed billion dollar-making Mattel movie brought in an additional $33.7 million at the weekend box office, the ninth-biggest showing for a fourth weekend at the box office in history, via THR.

Greta Gerwig is now the highest-grossing female director of all time domestically, as well as the highest-grossing female director of a live-action movie at the worldwide box office.

At $526.3 million domestically, Barbie will soon pass The Dark Knight‘s $534 million at the domestic box office to become the top-grossing Warner release of all time in North America as well.

Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, brought in $18.8 million in its fourth weekend, pulling in $264 million domestically and $649 million globally overall, becoming the director’s fifth-biggest film of all time overall.

'Meg 2' Opening Weekend - Box Office Numbers Revealed!

Meg 2: The Trench is out now, and the numbers are in!

The highly anticipated sequel to the Jason Statham-led 2018 shark thriller brought in $112 million internationally and $30 million domestically, bringing its global total so far to $142 million, via Variety.

The movie had a budget of $130 million, and was co-financed by Warner Bros. and China Media Capital.
