Tyler Perry Donates to Breonna Taylor's Boyfriend Legal Defense Fund

Tyler Perry is helping out Breonna Taylor‘s boyfriend.

The 51-year-old TV and film mogul made a $100,000 donation to help Kenneth Walker‘s legal defense, Deadline reports.

Breonna, a Black woman who was an EMS, was killed by police officers while she slept in her home in Louisville, Kentucky earlier this year.

In October, one of the officers involved in the shooting – Jon Mattingly – sued Kenneth for assault, battery, and emotional distress for shooting the officer in the leg during the botched raid.

A GoFundMe page was then set up on Kenneth‘s behalf to help raise funds for the legal battle against Mattingly. With Tyler‘s donation, the page has raised over $102,000 so far.

“It’s outrageous for one of the men partially responsible for all that, to sue the man who endured it,” the GoFundMe page reads. “The raid that killed Breonna Taylor was poorly conceived, nightmarishly executed, and hastily covered-up. The subsequent grand jury proceedings were farcical and staged. Daniel Cameron’s statements were disingenuous, at best. Jon Mattingly’s lawsuit is the nearly-unbelievable next step in this ongoing mockery of justice.”

Back in September, a Kentucky grand jury only indicted one of the four officers involved in Breonna‘s death.

George Clooney Says He's 'Ashamed' After No Cops Were Charged with Breonna Taylor's Death

George Clooney is speaking out after there were no police officers charged in the killing of Breonna Taylor.

On Wednesday (September 23), former police detective Brett Hankinson was indicted by a Kentucky grand jury on three charges of first-degree wanton endangerment for his involvement in the fatal shooting of Breonna in March. He was not brought up on any murder charges.

Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and Detective Myles Cosgrove – who were both there the night Breonna was fatally shot – were not criminally charged.

Following the grand jury’s decision, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron released a statement about the ruling.

There will be celebrities, influencers and activists who have never lived in Kentucky who try to tell us how to feel, suggesting they understand the facts of this case, and that they know our community and the commonwealth better than we do,” Cameron said. “But they do not.”

Shortly afterward, George – a Kentucky native – released a statement saying he’s “ashamed” of the grand jury’s decision.

“I was born and raised in Kentucky. Cut tobacco on the farms of Kentucky. Both my parents and my sister live in Kentucky. I own a home in Kentucky, and I was there last month,” George shared in a statement with E! News.

“The justice system I was raised to believe in holds people responsible for their actions,” George continued. “Her name was Breonna Taylor and she was shot to death in her bed by 3 white police officers, who will not be charged with any crime for her death. I know the community. I know the commonwealth. And I was taught in the schools and churches of Kentucky what is right and what is wrong.”

George concluded, “I’m ashamed of this decision.”

Celebrities React to Breonna Taylor Ruling

Celebrities are reacting to the Breonna Taylor ruling today that has caused an uproar for the lack of justice for her murder.

“A grand jury announced that Officer Brett Hankison was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment in connection to the police raid on the night of March 13. Neither the grand jury nor the presiding judge elaborated on the charges,” AP reported. The officer in question was not brought up on murder charges.

A social media campaign has been going on for months to get the officers involved arrested on murder charges.

For those unfamiliar with the case, a summary of the fatal incident, via AP: “Taylor, an emergency medical worker, was shot multiple times by officers who entered her home using a no-knock warrant during a narcotics investigation. The warrant used to search her home was connected to a suspect who did not live there, and no drugs were found inside. The use of no-knock warrants has since been banned by Louisville’s Metro Council…Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, opened fire when police burst in, hitting Mattingly. Walker was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, but prosecutors later dropped the charge. Walker told police he heard knocking but didn’t know who was coming into the home and fired in self-defense.”

One Officer Indicted by Grand Jury in Breonna Taylor Killing

One officer involving in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor has been indicted by a Kentucky grand jury, AP reported on Wednesday (September 23).

The jury did not move forward with charges against any officers for their role in her death, the outlet adds.

“A grand jury announced that Officer Brett Hankison was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment in connection to the police raid on the night of March 13. Neither the grand jury nor the presiding judge elaborated on the charges,” AP reported.

State Attorney General Daniel Cameron scheduled a news conference in the capital to discuss the grand jury’s decision.

Protesters around the world, including many celebrities, have called for the attorney general to charge the police who killed Breonna Taylor.

Before charges were brought, Brett Hankison was fired from the city’s police department on June 23. Sgt. Johnathan Mattingly, Officer Myles Cosgrove and the detective who sought the warrant, Joshua Jaynes, were placed on administrative reassignment after the shooting.

“Jefferson County Grand Jury indicts former ofc. Brett Hankison with 3 counts of Wanton Endangerment in 1st Degree for bullets that went into other apartments but NOTHING for the murder of Breonna Taylor. This is outrageous and offensive!” trial lawyer Ben Crump later wrote.

It was just announced that a docuseries about the case is in the works.
