Hulu Cancels 'Castle Rock' After Just Two Seasons

Hulu has decided not to move forward with another season of Castle Rock.

The streaming service announced the news today via Deadline that the hit show will end with just two seasons.

Based on many of Stephen King’s stories and set in the title Maine seaside town, the anthology series first centered on Henry Deaver, a death-row attorney who returned home to Castle Rock after a mysterious man turned up at Shawshank State Prison.

Then, in Season 2, Lizzy Caplan played a younger version of Misery‘s Annie Wilkes, who was on the run from the FBI after committing a murder — and when she wound up in Castle Rock with daughter Joy, even more bizarre and horrifying events went down.

Hulu recently cancelled many of its’ hit shows, including High Fidelity. See what one of the stars said after the cancellation here…

Lucky fans at 2019 New York Comic-Con got a sneak peek at the new season of Castle Rock!

The cast stepped out for a panel discussion and screening on Saturday afternoon (October 5) at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The panel included stars Lizzy Caplan, Barkhad Abdi, Tim Robbins, Elsie Fisher, Paul Sparks, Matthew Alan and Yusra Warsama.

During the event, fans in attendance got the chance to watch the season 2 premiere, titled “Let the River Run.”

Just as Halloween season is upon us, so is the new season of Castle Rock!

Here’s a synopsis of what is to come in season 2: A feud between warring clans comes to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes, Stephen King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock.

Cast members include Lizzy Caplan, Tim Robbins, Paul Sparks, Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi, Elsie Fisher and Matthew Alan.

The new season is set to debut on Hulu on Wednesday (October 23). The first three episodes will debut at that time, with later episodes coming weekly.

Lizzy Caplan, Garrett Hedlund & More Join Season 2 of 'Castle Rock'

Lizzy Caplan and Garrett Hedlund are joining the cast of Castle Rock!

The Masters of Sex actress and the Triple Frontier actor are set to appear in the upcoming season of the Hulu horror series from J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, Deadline reported on Wednesday (March 20).

Tim Robbins and Elsie Fisher are also joining the cast.

Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi and Matthew Alan are also joining as series regulars.

In Season 2 of the series, a feud between warring clans comes to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes (Caplan), Stephen King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock.

Lizzy‘s Annie Wilkes is a nurse and superfan battling to overcome mental health issues. Tim is Reginald “Pop” Merrill, The Patriarch of Stephen King’s iconic crime family, who is dying of cancer and at a reckoning with his family.

Garrett plays John “Ace” Merril, Castle Rock’s legendary bully, taking over his uncle Pop’s businesses and threatening a fragile peace with nearby Jerusalem’s Lot.

Elsie plays Joy, Annie’s home-schooled teenage daughter, who is starting to have questions about her mother’s sanity. Yusra plays Dr. Nadia Omar, the Harvard-trained Somali medical director of a rural hospital in Jerusalem’s Lot. Barkhad will play Abdi Omar, the tough, older brother of Nadia, who leads the charge to build a Somali community center that will deepen the roots of his people in Maine.

Finally, Matthew plays Chris Merrill, Pop’s nephew and Ace’s brother, who struggles to keep peace between the Merrills and the Somali community.

Hulu and Warner Bros. Television are providing a first look at J.J. Abrams and Stephen King‘s upcoming Castle Rock series!

The teaser trailer arrived on Sunday (October 8) during New York Comic Con.

The psychological horror, set in a fictional Maine town where many of Stephen‘s books are based, including The Dead Zone, The Body and Uncle Otto’s Truck, will weave together themes and characters from the universe created by the author.

Bill Skarsgard, who played Pennywise the Clown in It, makes an appearance in the trailer.

André Holland, Melanie Lynskey and Sissy Spacek, who played the title character in the iconic film adaptation of Carrie, also appears.

Castle Rock is due to arrive on Hulu in 2018. Watch the teaser trailer below!
