'Sound of Music Live' Ratings: NBC's Biggest Thursday in 4 Years!

The Sound of Music Live airing last night (December 5) delivered amazing ratings for the NBC network, resulting in NBC’s best Thursday night in four years, excluding sports airings.

The live musical version of the hit musical The Sound of Music brought in 18.5 million viewers and a 4.6 rating among adults 18-49. This rating was the best adult demo since the ER finale in 2009 and the best Thursday night viewing since the Frasier finale in 2004, according to EW.

The Sound of Music Live starred Carrie Underwood, Stephen Moyer, Audra McDonald, Christian Borle, and Laura Benanti.

'Sound of Music Live' Full Soundtrack Stream - LISTEN HERE!

Carrie Underwood will be coming into your living room live on Thursday (December 5) for her performance as Maria in The Sound of Music‘s live production, but you can listen to the full soundtrack here right now!

The 30-year-old entertainer is joined in the cast of the NBC special by Stephen Moyer as Captain Von Trapp, Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Christian Borle as Max Detweiler, and Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader.

The Sound of Music follows a woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the children of a Naval officer widower. The live show will be following the Broadway musical rather than the Julie Andrews film.

Make sure to tune in to the live special on Thursday at 8/7c on NBC!

Audra McDonald Joins NBC's 'Sound of Music' Live Special!

Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti, and Christian Borle have been added to the star-studded cast of the upcoming live production of The Sound of Music.

The production will be airing on NBC on December 5 and will star Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer in the lead roles of Maria and Captain Von Trapp.

Audra, a five-time Tony and two-time Grammy winner, will be playing the role of Mother Abbess, the head of Nonnberg Abbey. Laura, who won the Tony Award for playing the title role in Gypsy, will play Elsa Schrader, the rich would-be fiancee of Captain Von Trapp. Christian, who starred on Smash and won a Tony for Peter and the Starcatcher, will be playing Max Dettweiler, the friend of the captain.

'Smash' Series Finale Recap: Who Won the Tony Awards?

The end came with a celebration of the past few years of hard work in the form of the Tony Awards during the series finale of Smash on Sunday (May 26).

The series started off with the inception of the musical Bombshell based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. The second season introduced the original musical Hit List, which became Bombshell‘s competition as they both made their transitions to Broadway at the same time.

In the two hour season finale, we watched as the characters, played by Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Debra Messing, Jeremy Jordan, and many others, watched the nominations for the Tony Awards be announced. In the second hour of the episode, the awards were handed out at a star-studded ceremony.

Katharine McPhee: 'Smash' Canceled After Two Seasons

It is official – after a ton of speculation over the past few months, Smash has officially been canceled by NBC following two seasons on the air.

The musical drama, which starred Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, and Debra Messing, started off its second season with drastically low ratings and eventually got moved to Saturday nights.

The series will end with its two musicals within the show, “Bombshell” and “Hit List,” going head to head at the Tony Awards. Make sure to check out the series finale on Sunday, May 26 at 9/8c.

The 28-year-old actress was joined on the red carpet by her co-stars Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston, Christian Borle, Jack Davenport, Jeremy Jordan., Krysta Rodriguez, and Sean Hayes.
