The Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series nominees are taking over the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards on the Santa Monica Pier!

All but one of the 10 nominees up for the award hit the blue carpet outside the awards show on Saturday evening (March 4) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The list includes Danielle Deadwyler (Station Eleven) Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear), Jeff Hiller (Somebody Somewhere), Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League of Their Own), Frankie Quinones (This Fool), Molly Shannon (I Love That for You), Tramell Tillman (Severance) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary).

Sheryl‘s co-star Janelle James, who is also up for the award, didn’t hit the carpet.

Abbi Jacobson and her girlfriend Jodi Balfour just made their red carpet debut as a couple!

The couple walked the carpet together at the premiere of Abbi‘s new Prime Video series A League of Their Own on Thursday night (August 4) in Los Angeles.

Abbi and Jodi announced that they are dating back in October 2021 while celebrating their one-year anniversary.

Abbi is best known for her Comedy Central series Broad City and for voicing the lead role in The Mitchells vs. the Machines. Jodi stars in the Apple TV+ space drama series For All Mankind.

Also in attendance at the premiere were Abbi‘s co-stars Chante Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Roberta Colindrez, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Priscilla Delgado, Melanie Field, Molly Ephraim, Kate Berlant, Patrice Covington, Lea Robinson, Andia Winslow, Nat Faxon, Marquise Vilson, Marinda Anderson, Don Fanelli, Saidah Ekulona, and Kendall Johnson.

A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall‘s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball, both in and outside of the AAGPBL. The show follows Carson (Jacobson) and Max (Adams) and a new ensemble of sharp and hilarious characters as they carve their paths toward the field, along the way finding their teams and themselves. 

The series will premiere on Prime Video on August 12.

The upcoming series, which is inspired by the 1992 movie, “widens the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball, both in and outside of the AAGPBL.”

“The show follows Carson (Abbi Jacobson) and Max (Chanté Adams) and a new ensemble of sharp and hilarious characters as they carve their paths toward the field, along the way finding their teams and themselves.”

In addition to Abbi and Chante, the show will also star D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Roberta Colindrez, Kelly McCormack, Priscilla Delgado, Molly Ephraim, Kate Berlant, Melanie Field, Nick Offerman, and original movie star, Rosie O’Donnell.

A League of Their Own is getting a reboot!

An hour-long series, based on the 1992 Penny Marshall film, will be hitting Amazon, the company announced in a press release Thursday (August 6).

The series come from executive producers and co-creators Abbi Jacobson, who also stars, and Will Graham.

“This reinterpretation of A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall‘s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the League and outside of it,” the press release declares.

The series stars Abbi and Chanté Adams, alongside D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Roberta Colindrez, and Priscilla Delgado, with recurring guest stars Molly Ephraim, Kate Berlant and Melanie Field.

“28 years ago, Penny Marshall told us a story about women playing professional baseball that up until then had been largely overlooked. We grew up obsessed with the film, like everyone else. Three years ago, we approached Sony with the idea of telling a new, still overlooked set of those stories. With the help of an enormously talented team of collaborators, an amazing cast, and the devoted support of Amazon to this project, we feel beyond lucky and excited to get to bring these characters to life. It took grit, fire, authenticity, wild imagination and a crackling sense of humor for these players to achieve their dreams. We’re hoping to bring audiences a story with all of those qualities,” the co-creators said.
