Ian Somerhalder is giving some insight into his relationship with wife Nikki Reed and how they’ve successfully maintained their marriage in the spotlight.

The 42-year-old The Vampire Diaries actor opened up during an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy.

“What do you think is the key to keeping your relationship good?” Andy asked.

Ian replied, “Communication, taking time for yourself, for yourselves together… She’s the first one that says, ‘go, go on a bike ride, go socially distance walk with your buddies, go have a bourbon at the bar,’ you know, like just go.”

Andy asked what they fight about and Ian said, “We don’t really fight. I just basically.”

He then asked what they bicker about. Ian replied, “Well, I’m a tornado. I literally live, and I’ve learned this now as a parent. Cause I, you know, being a parent forces you to reckon with all of the things that, who you are really comes out, not just in a marriage, but when you become a parent and I am a tornado.”

Ian Somerhalder crouches down on the ground to kiss the grass while attending the drive-in screening of the documentary Kiss the Ground on Thursday (September 17) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 41-year-old actor quite literally did what the documentary asked while posing for photos with the film’s co-director Rebecca Harrell Tickell.

In the documentary, a revolutionary group of activists, scientists, farmers, and politicians band together in a global movement of “Regenerative Agriculture” that could balance our climate, replenish our vast water supplies, and feed the world.

Kiss the Ground will be available on Netflix starting on September 22. Ian appears in the documentary alongside Gisele Bundchen, Tom Brady, Patricia Arquette, and narrator Woody Harrelson.

“This film will change the world and our lives,” Ian has said.

It all started when E! News posted an Instagram photo featuring Nina‘s former co-stars Ian Somerhalder, who she once dated, and Paul Wesley.

E! captioned the photo, “POV: You’re Elena on #TheVampireDiaries. Who are you choosing?”

They then tagged Nina and asked her to weigh in directly on the debate.

Nina posted a comment in the replies, and fans couldn’t help but love it. Responses included, “LMAO POP OFF,” “that’s what we call an unbothered queen,” and laughing face emojis.

Paul saw Nina‘s comment and playfully responded.

Fans of the beloved series The Vampire Diaries are going to love the latest tweets from the show’s stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley!

It all started after someone on Twitter shared a video of her teenage daughter crying hysterically after watching the death of Paul‘s character Stefan Salvatore.

“I felt the same way kiddo! But then I realized oh wait, I just saw him yesterday… He’s still alive;) XO Damon,” Ian tweeted in response to the video.

Paul replied to Ian‘s tweet just minutes later and said, “You cried then as well but for the opposite reason.”

It has been over three years since the series finale of The Vampire Diaries aired and you can watch all of the episodes now on Netflix.

Ian recently said he wants a role in the next film in this popular franchise!

Jumanji: The Next Level has officially crossed the $800 million dollar mark at the box office worldwide, Deadline reports.

The movie – which stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan – focused back on the core four, who go back into the game to rescue one of their own.

While making an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday (February 24), Ian, 41, opened up about his relationship with his longtime The Vampire Diaries co-star Paul, 37.

“We love each other. We have wanted to kill each other about 800 times. But that means brothers,” Ian expressed. “Not only were we on a television show together for eight years, but now, we’ve started a company together. It’s really special.”

“The Salvatore boys, the Salvatore brothers have bourbon,” Ian revealed to host Kelly Clarkson. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Also, Ian disclosed that his wife, Nikki Reed was once told by Rob Lowe that he will be looking like him in 15 years. “He… He was so sweet, he walked up to my wife,” he said. “He walked up to Nikki Reed at a; I think it was a Golden Globes party or something; and he walks up to her and he grabs her face and says, ‘this is what you’re going to be looking at in fifteen years.’”
