During her appearance, Jane denied that she ever auditioned to play Phoebe Buffay on Friends (a role that went to Lisa Kudrow), but did reveal another iconic role that got away.

“In the ’90s, I auditioned for a movie [called] A League of Their Own in Chicago,” she said of the 1992 movie, directed by Penny Marshall.

Rosie O’Donnell ended up getting the part, but I auditioned. I had to play baseball and the whole thing. I didn’t get it. It was heartbreaking,” Lynch revealed.

She’s about to take on another role in an iconic series – find out which one!

″If you were a friend of hers, you knew it, you could feel it,″ Jane continued, adding that Naya was “loyal” and “protective.”

Jane continued: ″Just such a fierce force of nature that girl was. It’s a great loss. It’s a great loss for all of us.”

Jane Lynch Says Such Sweet Things About Late Naya Rivera in Touching Tribute

It has been almost one month since the tragic passing of Naya Rivera, and her former Glee co-star Jane Lynch had some lovely things to say about her today.

“I think that one of the things that kind of got lost when we were doing the show was what a force she was because there were so many talented people,” Jane said during a Today show appearance. “She was one of those people—she wasn’t in every scene, but when she was…she just blew everybody away.”

Jane continued, “I had three-page monologues, so did she. It took me a week to get mine. She would do them right off the bat and they would be changing them and she had no problem with it.”

“My niece Megan was very close with Naya and Megan always said that, with Naya, you felt like somebody had your back. She was somebody who wasn’t going to let anybody mess with you. She was a great advocate and loved the fact that she and Heather Morris had the lesbian relationship on the show and how much that meant to so many young people,” Jane said. If you missed it, Megan‘s tribute to Naya went viral after her death.

“It’s just gut-wrenching and heart-breaking that she’s gone,” Jane continued.

Jane Lynch's Niece's Touching Tribute to Naya Rivera Is Gaining Attention

Jane Lynch shared her niece Meg Doyle‘s tribute to the late Naya Rivera, and it really gives you a sense of just how beautiful of a person Naya was.

“I was an assistant on the Glee tour in 2009, and then I moved to LA in 2010. I ran into Naya at a bar – we hadn’t seen each other in a year. I didn’t really have any friends in LA yet. She was wearing overalls and a bra. That’s it. And she was killing it. Obviously. She said, ‘Let’s hang out,’ grabbed my phone and punched her number in. And so it began. She took me under her wing. Brought me into her crew. It didn’t matter that I was a lowly assistant at the time,” Meg posted.

She continued, “When I think of my first four years in Los Angeles, I think of Naya. Being in Naya’s presence made me feel larger than life. It was like anxious Megan absorbed Naya’s fearless spirit by osmosis. When you were around her, you just . . . bloomed. Anyone in Naya’s crew had a feisty, witty, 110 pound bodyguard on their side. She always had a mischievous glimmer in her eye and she always knew more than she let on. She was the rock of her family. She had a knack for seeing through someone’s bullshit, and she knew if I was lying when I said I was okay. She also had a knack for dropping a filthy one-liner, exiting the room and leaving us with our jaws on the floor.”

Meg continued, “She didn’t know how f*cking beautiful she was, but I believe she knew how talented she was, and I loved that about her. Watching Naya perform everyday, whether she was on set knocking out a 3 page monologue in one take, or belting Amy Winehouse in her car, or performing a lazy striptease during our talent shows – it never grew old, she always took my breath away. People grow apart, drift in and out of your life. I always figured she would drift back into mine. Naya was a force. I feel lucky to have known and loved her. Tell your people you love them. Let sh*t go. Life is short.”

Naya‘s body was found in Lake Piru days after she went missing after boating with her son Josey, 4. Jane was one of the first Glee co-star to pay tribute to Naya after this tragic news broke. RIP.
