The 42-year-old rapper proposed to Jeannie back on Friday, March 27 during a romantic night at home in Los Angeles.
Jeezy originally planned on proposing to Jeannie later in April during a planned trip to Vietnam, but due to restricted travel from the ongoing health pandemic, he popped the question at home instead.
“Jeannie and Jay were set for a trip to Vietnam this April. What Jeannie didn’t know is that Jay was planning to propose,” Jeannie‘s rep shared with People. “Instead, Jay decided to bring Vietnam to Jeannie with a surprise quarantine date night in his home filled with Vietnamese food and decor.”
Jeannie and Jeezy first met when he made an appearance on The Real back in 2018. They started quietly dating a few months later, and went public in August 2019.

“I definitely experimented, and I know now at 40 looking back that I had a really dark time in my life when I split from my family and moved out, lived in San Francisco … like, every drug you can imagine was there … and honestly, it replaced the joy that I didn’t have. So it made me — being high was so much more ‘fun’ because it felt like, ‘Oh, I feel special, I feel like a rock star, I feel loved,’” she explained.
“You say anything you want to say, you’re fearless … and then that crash — that crash is what made me realize that it was darker than the pain that I actually had in my life. And that led me to go,’ Oh, shoot, this ain’t for me.’ Because that pit — yo, it’s the dark place. It’s not a place you want to go,” she went on to say.
“I was rebellious, so I knew I was doing bad. Like, you almost love the fact that you are defying what you are supposed to do. Like when you, I don’t know, cross the street between the crosswalk, if you veer off and you — I have this thing in me where I just always go the … I’m a little naughty. I like to take the naughty route. But that was dangerous because it actually risked my life. And so today, I still pay consequences for being naughty. I still have to check myself and go, ‘Was that really worth it?” Or in the moment how do I turn on that filter to know that that put myself in danger or risk situations that I’m in. And that took maturity, but you shouldn’t have to wait until you’re a grown woman because you might not get there!”
“We can go into a whole counseling session on why I only gave myself the bare minimum,” she went on to say before addressing her ex, Freddy Harteis.
“I am not blaming my ex for the things that he barely came through to do…when [Freddy] said things like ‘good for you’ or ‘that’s cool,’ I’m like, that’s great, he supports me! That to me is my standard of support.”
“I didn’t even know until my new relationship that something as basic,” she said before beginning to cry.
“I’m not crying to feel bad. It was just so touchy. But even something as basic as like at his birthday party, he left his own birthday to drive me to the airport,” she said of Jeezy.
“He was like ‘are you kidding?’ I want to see you off.’”
“You can blame [your exes] but just be mindful of your standards…sometimes being alone in that time I took for myself, was my upgrade.”
