Jake Gyllenhaal & Jessica Chastain's Upcoming Video Game Movie Gets Update, Two Years Later

Nearly two years after the project was first announced, there’s an update on Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain‘s upcoming movie The Division!

The film will be an adaptation of the popular video game and Netflix has the rights to the project after winning a bidding war back in 2019.

David will remain on the project as a producer. Rawson will co-write the script with Ellen Shanman.

Deadline reports that the “story is set in the near future with a virus spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains.”

Jessica Chastain Made Sure She & Her '355' Co-Stars Are Owners Of The Film & Will Get A Portion of Movie's Profits

Jessica Chastain is opening up about how she’s more than just an actress in her upcoming movie, The 355.

The 43-year-old actress and her co-stars – including Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Marion Cotillard, and Fan Bingbing – will actually own the movie.

Jessica had a plan for the actors of the film to be paid equally and share in the film’s profits.

“A lot of times, our names are used to sell movies, and that’s how the money is raised for them,” Jessica explained to Shape magazine in her cover story. “So I thought, If our names are being sold, then we need to be the owners of the film.”

She continued, saying that she spoke to her co-stars and told them “if you do this movie, you’re going to have to agree to sell it, because you will be an owner. We’re going to sell the distribution rights to raise the budget for the film, and then everyone owns a portion of the box office.”

“I don’t know if anything like this has been done before, and honestly, I’m a bit shocked I got away with it,” Jessica shared. “But hopefully it creates a new model in which artists can own their work.”

This isn’t the first time Jessica has been an advocate for equal pay. It first came to light when she fought for Octavia Spencer to get five times the pay she signed on for in a movie they had done together.

“When it comes to fighting for pay equality, I would rather just do it and not talk about it. I think it’s actually more powerful if I don’t have to explain it,” she says.

Anne Hathaway & Jessica Chastain to Reunite to Play Rival Housewives in 'Mothers' Instinct' Movie

Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain will be reuniting on screen!

The award-winning actresses will be starring in the upcoming movie Mothers’ Instinct, according to Deadline. They previously worked together on the 2014 Christopher Nolan movie Interstellar.

Mothers’ Instinct is a psychological thriller that takes place in the 1960s. It ” will follow best friends and neighbors Alice (Chastain) and Celine (Hathaway) who both live an idyllic traditional lifestyle with manicured lawns, successful husbands and sons of the same age. Life’s perfect harmony is suddenly shattered after a tragic accident. Guilt, suspicion and paranoia combine to unravel their sisterly bond and a psychological battle of wills begins as the maternal instinct reveals its darker side.”

The movie is a remake of the 2018 Belgian movie Duelles, which was directed by Olivier Masset-Depasse. He will also direct the English-language version.

Jessica is producing the movie through her company Freckle Films.

Olivier said in a statement, “It takes actors of Jessica and Anne’s caliber to communicate the intricacy of these two roles. The relationship between a mother and child is the most powerful connection between two human beings. When this bond is severed, it calls into question conventional morality and even sanity. In the behind-closed-doors atmosphere of 1960’s America, Mothers’ Instinct becomes a terrifying, high-pressure powder keg.”

In a new interview, Anne talked about the roles that she wishes she had played.
