Oprah Winfrey is returning to the big screen!

The 66-year-old entrepreneur will be making her return to the acting world in Between the World & Me, Deadline reported Thursday (August 13).

Angela Bassett, Alicia Garza, Joe Morton, Phylicia Rashad, Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, Courtney B. Vance, Pauletta Washington and Susan Kelechi Watson are also set to star in HBO’s adaptation of the stage show, which is based on Ta-Nehisi Coates’ New York Times bestseller.

Here’s more about the production: “Originally adapted and staged by the Apollo Theater in 2018, the special will combine elements of that production, including readings from Coates’ book, and will once again be directed by award-winning director and Apollo Theater Executive Producer Kamilah Forbes. It will also incorporate documentary footage from the actors’ home life, archival footage, and animation.”

“The book, which was first published in 2015 by One World, is written as a letter to Coates’ teenage son and recounts the author’s experiences growing up in Baltimore’s inner city and his growing fear of daily violence against the Black community. The narrative explores Coates’ notion that American society structurally supports white supremacy.”

The special is currently in production under COVID-19 guidelines, and will debut this fall on HBO and HBO Max.

Tony Goldwyn and Joe Morton had themselves a mini Scandal reunion last night (April 2)!

The 58-year-old actor and his 71-year-old co-star stepped out to attend the Opening Act’s 2019 Benefit Play Reading of In Their Own Words held at New World Stages in New York City.

“Tomorrow’s this play reading for Opening Act, the city’s after-school theater program,” Tony told PageSix the evening before. “It helps under-served public high schools. Today arts are stripped from public schools. Arts are now considered dispensable. This program trains kids to be playwrights. I’ll be reading one of their plays. I’m playing a stockbroker.”

Opening Act is an innovative nonprofit that provides free after-school theater programming to New York City’s most under-served public high schools. Founded in 2000 by actors and educators, Opening Act seeks to level the playing field for students by specifically partnering with NYC schools that have lower than average graduation rates and an evident lack of theater programming.

Gabrielle Union is all smiles on the red carpet for the American Son opening night performance on Sunday (November 4) at the Booth Theatre in New York City.

The actress and her husband Dwyane Wade are two of the producers who brought the play to Broadway this season!

Kerry Washington is starring in the new play and her Scandal co-stars Tony Goldwyn and Joe Morton were both in attendance.

Tony will be on Broadway in the play Network and his co-stars Bryan Cranston and Tatiana Maslany stepped out to check out the play.

Other stars who attended the opening night include Orange Is the New Black‘s Uzo Aduba and singer Jennifer Nettles.

The two-time Oscar-winning actor is making his Los Angeles stage debut as Sir John Falstaff in the classic Shakespeare play. The cast also features Joe Morton, Hamish Linklater, Harry Groener, and Rondi Reed.

The play, which is performed outdoors, is running now through July 1 at the Japanese Garden on the West Los Angeles VA Campus and tickets are on sale now.

God Friended Me will premiere this fall on CBS.

Shonda Rhimes and the cast of Scandal celebrated the series finale of their hit ABC show on Thursday night (April 19) with a special appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Stars Kerry Washington, Guillermo Diaz, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, Tony Goldwyn, Jeff Perry, Joshua Malina, Bellamy Young, Scott Foley, Joe Morton, Cornelius Smith Jr. and George Newbern were all in attendance.

Kerry and Shonda came out first, and recalled how casting her as Olivia Pope went down: “I remember you first coming in,” Shonda said on the show, turning to Kerry. “Kerry first came in, and I had been meeting like all of these actresses.”

“Everybody wanted this part,’ Kerry added. “But you came in and it was amazing!” said Shonda. ‘It was literally like two seconds in, you started talking about politics and I knew I wanted Kerry for the part.”

Shonda also reveals that, yes, she knows what that ending means, and no, she’s never telling. “I get one last thing to say is a spoiler that I get to hold onto ’til the end of my life,” Shonda said – Watch all the videos below!
