John Benjamin Hickey Tested Positive for Coronavirus & Was 'Brutally Sick'

John Benjamin Hickey has revealed that he tested positive for coronavirus, but thankfully he has made a full recovery.

The 56-year-old Tony-winning actor is currently directing the Broadway revival of the play Plaza Suite (starring his friends Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick) and all shows in New York City were shut down right as the show was about to premiere.

John started feeling sick on March 13, the day after Broadway performances were suspended.

“The day after they closed Broadway down, I was feeling funny, went to my doctor, got tested, got my positive results back and spent two weeks really brutally sick,” John said while appearing on Broadway.com’s Live at Five show. “I clearly came through it and am two-and-a-half weeks now symptom-free and feel great.”

“Giving everything we’re hearing and understand about it now, I consider myself profoundly lucky. I only ever got really sick. I never needed to be at an emergency room or at a hospital,” John added. “I had a doctor monitoring me the whole time. I was very lucky. I came out okay and feel like myself again.”

John‘s best friend Andy Cohen also tested positive for coronavirus.

You can watch John‘s interview starting at the 8:20 mark in the video.
