There's a Conflicting Report About Why John Boyega Suddenly Left Netflix's 'Rebel Ridge' In the Middle of Production

Earlier this month, a report emerged saying John Boyega had suddenly exited his Netflix film Rebel Ridge in the middle of filming.

At the time, Netflix released a statement saying, “Rebel Ridge is pausing temporarily as we look to re-cast John Boyega who needed to leave the project for family reasons. We remain committed to Jeremy Saulnier’s extraordinary film and look forward to resuming production. We look forward to continuing our partnership with John Boyega’s UpperRoom Productions, in addition to our upcoming film They Cloned Tyrone in which he also stars.”

Now, a new report is emerging suggesting there are different reasons why John stepped away from the project while it was weeks into filming, which is allegedly unprecedented in the industry.

Tom Holland Auditioned for John Boyega's 'Star Wars' Role & It Didn't Go Well!

Tom Holland auditioned for the role of Finn in the new Star Wars movies and totally blew his audition!

During an interview with Backstage, the 24-year-old actor was asked, “Do you have an audition horror story you could share with us?”

“I’ve had quite a few. I’ve read the wrong lines at the wrong audition before,” Tom shared. “I remember my audition for Star Wars, I was like four or five auditions in, and I think I was auditioning for John Boyega‘s role. I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone. So I was doing all of this, like, ‘We gotta get back to the ship!’ And she was going, ‘Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.’ I just couldn’t stop laughing. I found it so funny. And I felt really bad, because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they’re called. Yeah, I obviously didn’t get the part. That wasn’t my best moment.”

Tom recently expressed his desire to take on this iconic role!

John, known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars franchise, recently opened up about the one thing that would make him return.

John Boyega Reveals The Only Project That Would Make Him Return as Finn in 'Star Wars'

John Boyega still has hope for one of Finn’s axed storylines from the Star Wars franchise.

Speaking with Yahoo, the 28-year-old actor opened up about the scene he really hoped would make it to the big screen.

In the leaked script for Colin Trevorrow‘s scrapped film, it was revealed that Finn’s was originally going to end the trilogy by becoming a revolutionary and leading a class rebellion along with Rose on the galactic capital planet of Coruscant.

“I think Colin Trevorrow was going to tell that story,” John shared. “The concept art in the ‘Star Wars’ book has that image of Finn with the blue flag, and you have the AT-ATs lined up with tribal marks, and the stormtroopers take off their helmets. That would have been sick. That would have been dope, hands down.”

While John has been vocal about not returning to the franchise, it looks like he’d be open to still voicing the character in an animation project.

“Animated? Yeah that would be cool,” he said. “You could do it all from home.”

Just recently, John criticized the franchise for excluding characters of color in main storylines. Here’s what he said…
