Queer Eye's Karamo Brown Would Definitely Sign Up To Be 'The Bachelor'

Karamo Brown isn’t against the idea of becoming the first gay Bachelor.

Speaking with US Weekly, the 39-year-old Queer Eye star was fast to say yes to the question.

“We can go for it. Let’s try it. I would … Why not?” he shared with the magazine, before admitting that “dating is a mess” right now.

Karamo, who recently split from fiance Ian Jordan shared that he’s been getting all kinds of DMs from interested guys.

“Not to be crude or anything, [but] sending inappropriate pics is not a way to ever engage with someone. That’s not universal for ‘hello,’” he explained. “I don’t know why guys think that’s an appropriate thing to do. So, it’s like, please keep it respectful. You know what I mean?”

He continued, “The other day, I got someone who sent me Cardi B lyrics. … They literally sent me Cardi B lyrics for her new song and was like, ‘Hey, can we date?’ And I was like, ‘Why do you think this would be me? Like, me? You think I’m going to be like, ‘Oh, great. Cardi B lyrics. Yes, let’s date.’”

Karamo added about signing up to be The Bachelor for the ABC franchise: ” “So, if I could just get a whole bunch of great guys in one room and just to, like, go through, sign me up.”

During his appearance, Karamo confirmed that he and the 48-year-old director had an amicable split over the summer after initially postponing their wedding.

“It’s actually postponed officially…my fiance and I, we were together for 10 years, we broke up about three and a half months ago. It’s one of those things…we were distracted by so much – with the kids, and our careers – that during that time, I had to really say ‘How is our communication? How is other parts of our lives? Are we growing in the same place?’ We’re not 20 anymore, so wasn’t just like ‘Oh, I’m not gonna text you anymore.’ We have a family and home. How do we separate this?” Karamo said.

“We went to virtual counseling. We did a lot of things. But eventually I was like, this is a moment where I need to decide ‘Is my happiness important?’”

“Once I made that decision. I said, we’re going to have to break up. There was luckily no cheating, we’re good friends. It’s very nice…but yeah, no more wedding.”

Karamo popped the question to his then-partner of eight years back in 2018 at the Hyde Sunset in Los Angeles.

Karamo Brown Reflects on Being First Openly Gay Black Man on Reality TV

Karamo Brown is opening up about his past.

The 39-year-old Queer Eye star is on the digital cover of Euphoria. Magazine‘s Pride 2020 issue, out now.

Here’s what he had to say…

On learning he was the first openly gay Black man to be cast on reality TV when he was given a spot on 2004′s The Real World: Philadelphia: “I was just comfortable enough in myself then, and still to this day, just to be honest about who I am and just live my life freely. I was just fresh out of college and was like, ‘Go on The Real World? Yeah, sure!…and I was like, ‘Really? I thought that happened 40 million years ago!’ And it just shows why representation is so important because there are still so many groups that have never been seen on television.”

On Pride and Black Lives Matter: “What I think a lot of people don’t realize is that Pride movements are actually protest movements. And so I actually believe that Pride is still happening right now. It’s just being combined with the Black Lives Matter movement. And I say that with understanding the importance of just having the Black Lives Matter movement, but in solidarity LGBT people, more than anyone, should understand what it is like to be told you’re not worthy to have your lives taken just for being who you are. We live in a time where a lot of people feel very privileged and feel very accepted and loved, but there are still many people who lose their lives just for being who they are, who are in the LGBT community, just like Black people.”

On his upcoming wedding to fiance Ian Jordan: “I’m just so ready to get married and just be like, ‘I’m married now.’ I don’t know if it’s something Southern in me but I want it all, I want the marriage, I want the white suit with a long tail as if it was my dress. I want all of it!”

Queer Eye's Karamo Brown Is Pointing Out Racism in the LGBT Community

Karamo Brown, the culture expert on Netflix‘s Queer Eye, is calling out racism in the LGBTQ+ community.

“There’s a lot of racism that exists in the LGBT community,” the 39-year-old explained. “The things I’ve seen outside (in society) I’ve only seen perpetuated in the LGBT community.”

“Yeah, you might have had a struggle because you’re gay, but white privilege still exists.”

He then pointed to when Grindr removed the ethnicity filter to combat racism.

“White gay men were like ‘this is wrong, I should have the right to be like I don’t want blacks, I don’t want Asians,’” Karamo continued. “If you inherently don’t understand why that is wrong, as a gay person … then you need to check yourself.”

“Growing up as a black man in America with immigrant parents raising two black sons, this is a constant conversation that I’ve been having,” Karamo said. “These are constant things that I’ve seen with my friends and family members being harassed by police, being brutalized by police.”
