The ABC series The Baker and the Beauty is currently number one on Netflix and so many fans are wondering when a second season will be available.

Unfortunately, the series was canceled over 10 months ago and there are currently no plans to make additional episodes of the beloved series. Even though the show just found so many fans, it didn’t find a large audience when it aired on network television last year.

Here’s a summary for the film, according to ET: When the newly renovated Hotel Optima in Malta has a grand reopening, and Chloe (Kelley) and her team from Destination Traveler magazine, which includes Sara (Murin), head over to cover the travel scene in Malta.

On her first night in Malta, Chloe overhears an altercation happening through the air vent of her hotel room and then sees someone fall to their death — right past her hotel window. Chloe assists FBI agent Aaron (Donnell) working on the case, but will they catch the killer before the killer finds them?

The nine-episode first season aired on ABC in the spring of 2020 and was unfortunately not a hit. Less than 3 million people tuned in for each episode, making it one of the least-watched shows of the season. ABC announced the show’s cancellation in June 2020 and the producers were unable to find another home for season two.

Nathalie Kelley, who plays Noa Hamilton on the series, called out the network for the cancellation and said it was “tone deaf” to cancel the show.

Nathalie had her big break when she played Neela in 2006′s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Since then, she’s starred in TV shows like Body of Proof, The Vampire Diaries, and Dynasty.

The series has failed to find a new home after it was cancelled by ABC in the recent months.

Efforts were made to place the show, which starred Nathalie Kelley and Victor Rasuk as the title characters, on another network. But there were no takers.

“Baker and the Beauty is a show that depicts Latin families as warm, lovable, full of joy and compassion and humor,” Nathalie shared in an open letter to the fandom who was just as outraged as she was that ABC cancelled the show. “A cancellation by ABC means that there are now no shows on the networks with a Latinx cast. At a time when the public is marching in the streets demanding representation and diversity this is an extremely tone deaf decision.”

Nathalie Kelley is opening up about the cancellation of her freshman series The Baker and the Beauty and she calls ABC’s decision to cancel the show “extremely tone deaf.”

The 34-year-old actress released a statement in which she encouraged fans to sign a Change.org petition in hopes of having another network pick up the series for another season.

“We are seeing now more than ever that representation is important for black and brown people of color. How we are represented on our television shows determines how society sees us, and the empathy and support they will grant our communities. When we are constantly depicted as narcos and maids, we can’t expect to find favor with voters when they go to the polls and elect leaders who will decide on the fate of immigrants,” Nathalie said in her statement.

She added, “Baker and the Beauty is a show that depicts Latin families as warm, lovable, full of joy and compassion and humor. The show garnered critical praise and a passionate and loyal fan following. A cancellation by ABC means that there are now no shows on the networks with a Latinx cast. At a time when the public is marching in the streets demanding representation and diversity this is an extremely tone deaf decision.”

“And the show hopes to find a home on another platform but needs public support. We need to send a message to these platforms that diversity matters,” Nathalie concluded.

Nathalie revealed earlier this week that the show is looking for another home.
