Dolly Parton Sweetly Pays Tribute To Olympia Dukakis Following Her Death

Dolly Parton is counting herself as one of the lucky ones after hearing of Olympia Dukakispassing at the age of 89 over the weekend.

The 75-year-old singer starred with Olympia in 1989′s Steel Magnolias.

“I was so sorry to hear that Olympia Dukakis had passed away,” she shared in a statement to Today. “She has been one of my favorite people that I have ever known or worked with.”

Dolly added, “I really got very close to her and felt like we were good friends. Even though I didn’t get to see her much, I thought of her often and knew that she was such a quality human being. She will be missed by her fans, her family, and those of us that were lucky enough to get to know her personally.”

Another of Olympia‘s Steel Magnolias co-stars, Sally Field, also shared her tribute on Twitter.

Olympia Dukakis' 'Moonstruck' Co-Star Cher & More Stars React to Her Death

Stars in Hollywood are speaking out to pay tribute to Oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis, who sadly passed away at the age of 89.

Dukakis‘ brother announced that she died on Saturday morning (May 1) in New York City after “many months of failing health.”

Best known for her Academy Award-winning work in the movie Moonstruck, Olympia was also known for her roles in Steel Magnolias, Look Who’s Talking, and the series Tales of the City. She most recently starred in the Netflix reboot of the series.

Cher, who played Olympia‘s daughter in Moonstruck, took to Twitter and wrote, “Olympia Dukakis Was an Amazing, Academy Award Winning Actress. Olympia Played My Mom In Moonstruck, & Even Though Her Part was That Of a Suffering Wife, WeπŸ˜‚ALL The Time. She Would Tell Me How MUCH She Loved Louis, Her ”Handsome Talented, Husband.” I Talked To Her 3 Wks Ago. Rip Dear One.”

Such stars as Viola Davis, Rosie O’Donnell, and George Takei have also taken to Twitter to pay tribute to her life and career.

Olympia Dukakis Dead - Oscar-Winning Actress Passes Away at 89

Olympia Dukakis has sadly passed away.

The legendary actress, who won an Oscar for her performance in the movie Moonstruck, has died at the age of 89.

Olympia‘s brother Apollo Dukakis announced on Facebook that she died on Saturday morning (May 1). He wrote, “My beloved sister, Olympia Dukakis, passed away this morning in New York City. After many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her Louis.”

Other performances that Olympia was known for include her work in Steel Magnolias, Look Who’s Talking, and the Joan of Arc mini-series. She starred in the 1993 series Tales of the City, the sequel series More Tales of the City, and most recently, the Netflix reboot Tales of the City.

A feature-length documentary film about her life, titled Olympia, was released last year.

We’re sending our thoughts and condolences to Olympia‘s loved ones during this difficult time.

Ellen Page was joined by her wife Emma Portner at the premiere of Tales of the City!

The 32-year-old actress hit the carpet at the event on Monday night (June 3) at Build Studio in New York City.

The upcoming series is based on the books by Armistead Maupin and follows Mary Ann as she returns to present-day San Francisco and reunites with her daughter and ex-husband, twenty years after leaving them behind to pursue her career.

Mary Ann is quickly drawn back into the orbit of her chosen family and a new generation of queer young residents living at 28 Barbary Lane.

Diane Kruger & Bryan Cranston Premiere 'The Infiltrator' in NYC

Diane Kruger poses alongside her The Infiltrator co-star Bryan Cranston at the premiere of their film on Monday night (July 11) at AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 theater in New York City.
