'OITNB' Star Danielle Brooks Opens Up About Using Her Influence to Promote Body Positivity

Danielle Brooks is on the digital cover of Shape‘s September 2019 issue, out now.

Here’s what the 29-year-old Orange Is The New Black actress had to say…

On using her influence to promote body positivity: “I began to realize the impact of my voice when the first season of Orange Is the New Black dropped. I started to see girls use my red-carpet looks as inspiration for their prom dresses. I began to see my interview quotes on social media. I realized that I could be what I wished for as a young girl, for someone else. I wanted someone in the industry, who I felt was a reflection of me, to scream from the mountaintops, ‘I love my body! I can accomplish whatever I want in the exact body God created me to be in!’”

On creating joy for yourself and others: “When you let your light shine, it not only gives others the permission to do the same but opens up a world of unknown opportunities and joys for you as well.”

On breaking down barriers: “This opportunity to be on [the digital cover of] Shape is a pretty big deal to me. I feel like the world has built these invisible bullets to bully us in telling us who we’re supposed to be and what we’re supposed to look like. And I’ve always had this desire to prove people wrong—to say that this body that I’m in is enough. Now that I’m about to be a mother, it means even more—to make sure that this human being I’m going to bring into the world knows that they are enough.”

Did Daya Die in the 'Orange' Finale? Dascha Polanco Says...

The final season of Orange Is the New Black premiered last week and the final episode features a cliffhanger moment with Dascha Polanco‘s character Daya.

This post will contain some spoilers, so don’t continue reading if you don’t want to know what happened!

In Daya’s final scene, her mother Aleida Diaz, played by Elizabeth Rodriguez, tackles her to the ground with her hand around her neck. It’s not clear if she survived the attack.

“They made it very clear to me that I don’t die. I thought that she did. But the writers told me, ‘She doesn’t die, but she gets knocked out really well.’ And I realized it was going to be left as that question. I acted that out really well, huh? (Laughs.),” Dascha told THR. “Because I said, ‘Wait a minute! Does she die?’ That was explained to me.”

“The entire last episode was super emotional. Everyone was in their feelings and reliving moments: ‘Remember when we were here?’ After she knocks me out, I would start crying or getting emotional. Not for the scene itself, but for the last couple of days they had everyone come in and we took a ‘last seven seasons’ group picture,” she added.

Ruby Rose Reflects on 'Orange is the New Black' Ending

Ruby Rose is remembering her time on Orange is the New Black.

After the final season debuted on Netflix, the 33-year-old DJ and actress took to Instagram on Saturday (July 27) to share a collage of photos with her co-stars along with a touching post thanking show creator Jenji Kohan for casting her.

“Breakfree changed my life in so many ways, and so did the struggle of those years,” Ruby said about one of her first film roles. “It will forever be the time I’m most proud of.”

“t also found its way to the creators of OITNB… I am so sad I missed the premiere and last hurrah the other night, but I’m here in Vancouver shooting a show I probably wouldn’t even be shooting if it wasn’t for the belief and risk taken by @ijnej @jen_euston and the show,” Ruby continued. “It opened up a door for me that I could have never imagined and I will forever be in gratitude to those who took a chance on me. Forever grateful to the cast who became my friends and biggest supporters, the show and the fans who embraced me.”

Ruby was a guest star on OITNB in seasons three and four.

“Thank you for everything,” Ruby concluded. “Sad to see it come to an end but the way it changed the game, the way it impacted the world and audiences.. and the way it impacted everyone on the show is unparalleled. X”

Taryn Manning Slams 'Orange is New Black' Co-Stars, Says 'This Show Hurt Me So Bad'

Taryn Manning is speaking out against Orange is the New Black.

Just one day after the final season was released on Netflix, the 40-year-old actress took to Instagram on Saturday (July 27) to slam the show and her co-stars.

“This show hurt me more than anything has in my life and if this is what I have to do to push what I stand for I will,” Taryn wrote in a lengthy post. “I have to speak out before anything happens to me. F—k fame! This show hurt humans. You will never truly know but many were hurt!”

Taryn
was also noticeably missing from the OITNB premiere earlier this week. She also recently alarmed fans when she shared another post where fans thought she was suicidal.

“I do not need to ever work again in this town. I’ve been dropped by everyone for having a backbone,” Taryn added. “I was dropped because a person terrorizes me daily and them too. So my team, they just turn away. Like a car accident. Rubber neck but don’t help. F—k show biz. A disgrace.”

Taryn concluded her post by writing, “Not one cast member cares about me. Just watch.”

Co-star Lori Petty – who plays Lolly on the show – commented on the post writing, “Hey. I love you” along with three heart emojis.

Taryn then responded, ““Thx bubs I know you do. And I love you. I am giving up everything to speak on how awful this career is and how awful we are treated. How I never knew if I was coming back yet I had seven optional seasons. How I didn’t even know how to plan my life, organize anything cause everything was a secret. Self serving bulls—t, for whatever sick agenda. How some of the most dear characters were just not there anymore. My pals. F—k this show. This show hurt me so bad.”

Taryn Manning Reveals How She Got Into Character for 'Orange Is The New Black'

Taryn Manning is on the latest issue of LaPalme Magazine, out now.

Here’s what the 40-year-old Orange Is The New Black star had to say…

On overhearing kids in her ballet class discussing acting: “I was eavesdropping, being nosey. Then my mom came to pick me up that night, and I was like ‘Shondra and Ashley take acting classes, why can’t I?’ I guess I was kind of a poser, I wanted to do what everyone else was doing.”

On her Orange Is The New Black character, Pennsatucky: “We’ve all heard about drug addiction, but to get into character I spent hours watching documentaries and researching the chemical makeup of methamphetamine. It was important for me to know the details because I had to constantly remind myself that this is a woman who has battery acid in her brain, cat litter, and it’s impossible for someone to function normally.”

On Boomkat, her musical collaboration with her brother: “We always loved music in our household. My brother forced me to sing over some tracks, and when he was pleased, his approval fueled my fire to keep going. It eventually became my ultimate love.”
