Portia de Rossi was rushed to the hospital over the weekend for an emergency appendectomy and her wife Ellen DeGeneres is now opening up about what happened.

The 63-year-old talk show host talked about the scary moment during the monologue for her show, which will air on Tuesday (March 23).

“It started on Friday in the evening around 7:30… I’m sitting there watching TV with Portia and Portia said, ‘I’m not feeling well. I want to go to bed.’ And it was like 8 o’clock and that’s early. I’m not used to going to bed that early. We go to bed around 8:30,” she jokingly said.

Ellen said she then took sleep vitamins to help her go to sleep early alongside Portia. Soon after taking the vitamins and starting to fall asleep, she heard something.

“I look over and Portia is not in bed next to me… I get out of bed and I find Portia on the floor on all fours. And I’m like, ‘Baby are you okay?’ And she says, ‘Yeah, I’m okay.’ And I said, ‘Well you’re okay if you’re playing Twister by yourself, but you’re not okay,’” Ellen said.

Ellen then decided to drive Portia to the E.R. and said she was in lots of pain in the car. After doing some scans, it was decided that Portia had to be admitted to the hospital and Ellen wasn’t allowed to stay because of COVID-19.

“They said we have to admit her to the hospital and they won’t let me stay because of COVID and so that’s upsetting to me. They sent me home and I’m crying,” Ellen said. She then jokingly added, “Because someone was chopping onions at the nurse’s station.”

Ellen says that Portia was in so much pain after the surgery that she bargained with the nurse for more pain meds by offering tickets to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which did not work.

“I am happy to report Portia is feeling much better now. She’s home. She came home late yesterday. Not all of her, she left her appendix at the hospital,” Ellen said. She then joked she was going to auction off the appendix.

The 48-year-old actress had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery on Friday (March 19).

“Ellen rushed Portia to the hospital on Friday night, she was in a lot of pain,” a source told People. “It was appendicitis and she had surgery.” A rep for Portia and her wife, Ellen DeGeneres, added that she’s “doing well.”

A source also added “now resting at home, doing well and Ellen is taking care of her. It was a scare at first, but all good.”

Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres are sharing their love story!

The 48-year-old retired actress and the 63-year-old talk show host opened up about meeting each other and falling in love in the new issue of People.

“I remember thinking that she was the coolest, most fascinating, beautiful, funniest person I’d ever met,” Portia recalled of Ellen after they met at a Rock the Vote concert in the early 2000s.

“But I, at the time, was closeted,” Portia shared. “I really wasn’t comfortable with my sexuality. I just knew that being with her would be a bit of a thing for me, so we didn’t get together after that for about three years.”

A few years later, the two ran into each other again at the Big in ’04 VH1 honors event.

“We saw each other and started talking, and that was it,” Ellen explained. “She opened up and said she’d been thinking about me. And it surprised me. It was a big deal for her to be seen with me. The very first time we were photographed together was when I joined her at the Golden Globes after-party. And that’s when everyone knew that we were together.”

Portia then went on share how being with Ellen helped her feel comfortable with being gay.

“I just got to a point where I chose love over anything else. This was a once-in-a-lifetime feeling,” Portia said, who married Ellen in 2008 after same-sex marriage was legalized in California.

“And Ellen really did help me through it just by being there and making me feel more comfortable about who I am — like there was nothing wrong with being gay,” Portia shared. “I think that’s the first time in my life I felt that was true.”

The longtime couple were seen holding hands while out and about in their neighborhood around Montecito, Calif., on Tuesday (January 5).

Ellen and Portia both kept it casual during their outing and wore their face masks, as Ellen is still recovering from her positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

Just before the New Year, it was revealed that The Ellen DeGeneres Show production would be pushed back by a week, with new episodes starting back on Monday, January 11, instead of the previous Monday.

A spokesperson for the show says the move “is being made out of an abundance of caution with the recent spike in cases, and producers will be working from home,” Deadline reports.

The 62-year-old talk show host and the 47-year-old retired actress wrapped their arms around each other while out antique shopping together on Saturday afternoon (November 21) in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Ellen kept things casual in a black T-shirt and olive-colored pants while Portia sported a tan beanie, bomber jacket, and knee-high boots for their outing. The two both stayed safe in face masks as they did some shopping together.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi‘s dog Kid had an accident and broke his leg in their backyard.

“Over the weekend, our dog Wally, she’s a little over a year, so she’s a puppy. And she was running full-speed across the lawn,” Ellen said in the opening monologue of her show on Tuesday (September 22).

“Our dog Kid happened to be in the way and she just trampled over Kid, which is illegal because the speed limit is 25 when there’s a kid nearby,” Ellen continued, adding in a joke. “So Kid was screaming in pain and we knew his leg was broken. It was awful, awful, awful.”
