'Queer as Folk' Reboot Is Coming to Peacock!

Queer as Folk is coming back!

The hit series, which began in the ’90s as a UK series before being adapted in North America, is being reimagined in a new series from creator Stephen Dunn for Peacock, Variety reported Thursday (April 8).

The show received a straight-to-series order, and is described as a modern take on the original UK series, chronicling the lives of a group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed following tragedy.

Queer as Folk was more than just a show, it was a ground-breaking and necessary voice for so many people. Stephen’s new version for Peacock arrives at yet another pivotal moment in our culture,” said NBCUniversal’s Lisa Katz.

The original show ran for 10 episodes between 1999 and 2000 in the UK, and was followed by a North American remake in 2000, which ran for five seasons.

“It is a surreal honor to adapt the notoriously groundbreaking series by Russell T. Davies. When the show originally aired, the idea of unapologetic queer stories on TV was so provocative that I felt I could only watch Queer as Folk in secret. But so much has changed in the last 20 years and how wonderful would it be if the next generation didn’t have to watch Queer as Folk alone in their dank basements with the sound muted, but with their family and friends and the volume cranked all the way to the max,” said Stephen Dunn, who will write, direct and executive produce, as well as directing the pilot.

There are no details yet on casting or a release date.

Queer As Folk is coming back!

A new version of the series is in the works at Bravo, Variety confirmed on Tuesday (December 18).

The new version of the show will reportedly feature all new characters in a new setting, and is considered a “modern take” on the original series, which centers on a group of club-going friends “who find support in the gay community following a tragedy.”

Original UK series creator Russell T. Davies is an executive producer.

The original series ran for 10 episodes between 1999 and 2000 in the UK. The North American remake launched in 2000, and ran for five seasons and starred Gale Harold, Randy Harrison, Hal Sparks, Peter Paige and Scott Lowell.
