Roku Will Be the New Streaming Home of Quibi Shows

Roku has struck a deal with Quibi to acquire exclusive global distribution rights to many of the shuttered streaming service’s shows.

The programming will be available for free streaming on Roku devices starting later this year and the shows will feature ad-breaks, just as they did on Quibi’s $5-a-month service.

Among the titles that will be available on Roku will be Anna Kendrick‘s Dummy, Liam Hemsworth‘s Most Dangerous Game, and Chrissy Teigen‘s Chrissy’s Court. There will also be shows featuring Idris Elba, Kevin Hart, Nicole Richie, and Lena Waithe, among others.

Quibi Announces 'Last Day of Service' Date After Shutdown News

The new streaming service Quibi announced this week that it will be shutting down for good and now the app’s final date of service has been revealed.

The “service will end streaming on or about December 1, 2020,” according to a new statement from the company.

The statement read, “Quibi has made the difficult decision to wind down. We anticipate that the service will end streaming on or about December 1, 2020. We appreciate the support we have received from our customers and want to thank you for giving us an opportunity to entertain you.”

If you’re hoping to see the content in other places, it’s not yet known if that will be possible.

The statement concluded, “At this time we do not know if the Quibi content will be available anywhere after our last day of service. We recommend following #Quibi on Twitter for any news regarding content.”

One of the star-studded shows is being shopped around already.

Liam Hemsworth's Quibi Show 'Most Dangerous Game' Is Being Shopped Elsewhere After Streamer Shuts Down

Quibi made headlines this afternoon when Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman revealed that the streamer would be shutting down just months after its debut this year.

According to Variety, CBS partnered with the service to bring the TV brand to younger viewers, and is now looking for new hosts for its’ content, including Liam Hemsworth‘s show, Most Dangerous Game.

The plan is for the CBS to shop the series to another network, as Most Dangerous Game was renewed for a second season just prior to the shut down.

Here’s a plot summary for Most Dangerous Game, which also starred Christoph Waltz: “Desperate to take care of his pregnant wife before a terminal illness can take his life, Dodge Tynes accepts an offer to participate in a deadly game where he’s the prey. This dystopian action-thriller explores the limits of how far someone would go to fight for their life and their family. Let the games begin.”

Quibi Is Shutting Down For Good

Quibi is officially shutting down.

A new report from the Wall Street Journal says that the short-form mobile video startup is being shuttered by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman after bringing in $2 billion in capital.

The streaming service launched in April of 2020 amid the Coronavirus pandemic. Shows involved in the startup included Dummy with Anna Kendrick and a remake of The Fugitive with Kiefer Sutherland.

Apparently there was an attempt to sell the company to Apple, WarnerMedia and Facebook but all three rebuffed the offer.

The last Quibi news we have is from August when they were still going full steam ahead.
