The 2021 Oscars is always one of the biggest fashion events of the year and one of the trends that JustJared spotted has been statement sleeves!

Presenter Regina King opted for structured, sparkly sleeves on her gown, while Marlee Matlin chose a dramatic black gown with split sleeves.

Angela Bassett looked gorgeous in a puff sleeve gown and Best Makeup and Hairstyling nominee Eryn Krueger Mekash‘s lacy black sleeves featured some fun cut outs.

There’s no host at the 2021 Academy Awards, but Regina King kicked things off by welcoming the audience to the show at this year’s event!

The 50-year-old Oscar-winning actress made an epic entrance through the halls of Union Station while walking to the stage of the show on Sunday night (April 25) in Los Angeles.

When Regina arrived on stage, she opened the show with a speech about social justice and the pandemic. She also explained the masks protocol at the event, revealing that they’re treating the show like a movie set.

“When we’re rolling, masks off. And when we’re not rolling, masks on,” she said.

Regina also commented on the Derek Chauvin trial. She said, “I have to be honest: If things had gone differently this past week in Minneapolis, I might have traded in my heels for marching boots… I know that a lot of you people at home want to reach for your remote when you feel like Hollywood is preaching to you—but as a mother of a Black son, I know the fear that so many live with, and no amount of fame or fortune changes that.”

Earlier in the night, Regina walked the red carpet with Aldis Hodge, who stars in the movie One Night Miami, a film she directed.

The 50-year-old actress and director looked amazing in a custom Louis Vuitton dress, which featured structured shoulders and jewel-striped details down the gown.

Regina posed with Aldis Hodge on the red carpet, who starred in her movie, One Night in Miami, as Jim Brown.

She was also spotted running into and having a quick conversation with Best Leading Actress nominee, Andra Day.

One Night in Miami is up for three honors tonight – Best Supporting Actor for Leslie Odom, Jr., Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song.

Regina will also be featured as part of the Oscars “cast”.

Regina King arrives in style for a dinner out with friends in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (April 21).

The 50-year-old One Night in Miami director kept it cute in a tan jumpsuit while chatting with a pal as they headed inside to Craig’s restaurant for a bite to eat.

Just before going into the restaurant, Regina was seen signing a few autographs for fans.

In a recent interview, Regina opened up about what’s next for her following One Night in Miami and she revealed she has “a few things that are in development.”

“I guess the job for me now is try not to compare it to the first experience and just focus on creating the next experience,” Regina continued.

She also promised that the projects ahead are period pieces: “I feel like we’re kind of in a place now where we definitely need to correct some of the revised history, and I feel like there is something very powerful with being reminded of from whence we came…from where we’ve come and where we want to go.”

This coming weekend, Regina will also be presenting at the 2021 Oscars.

The 2021 Oscars have announced the first batch of presenters for next weekend’s award show.

In a trailer like announcement, the video asks, “In a world filled with award shows, what if an award show was actually a movie? Which stars would you cast?”

Producers Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh have said that in “keeping with our awards-show-as-a-movie approach, we’ve assembled a truly stellar cast of stars” for the first batch of presenters.

“There’s so much wattage here, sunglasses may be required,” they added in the statement.

On top of last year’s winners Bong Joon Ho, Joaquin Phoenix, Laura Dern, Renee Zellweger and Brad Pitt, the “cast” will also feature Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Harrison Ford, Regina King, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, Reese Witherspoon, and Zendaya.

More of the “cast” are expected to be revealed soon.

The 2021 Oscars will be held Sunday, April 25 at both the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and at L.A.’s Union Station.

Only nominees and presenters will be allowed to attend due to COVID-19 safety protocols. This other rule about the show has been amended.

Regina is nominated for Best Director for One Night in Miami, and the film is also nominated for Best Picture.

One Night in Miami takes place on the night of Feb. 25, 1964, in Miami, Cassius Clay joins Jim Brown, Sam Cooke and Malcom X, and they discuss the responsibility of being successful black men during the civil rights movement.

The 50-year-old actress was nominated for Best Director for her film, One Night In Miami, which centers on four historic Black men – Cassius Clay, Jim Brown, Sam Cooke and Malcom X – as they discuss the responsibility of being successful black men during the civil rights movement.

While Regina did not win, Chloe Zhao did and it was a history making moment as it’s only the second time a woman has won the category ever.
