'SNL' Ladies Past & Present Celebrate 40th Anniversary with Fun Tidbets & More!

The ladies and current cast members from Saturday Night Live are highlighted in this extensive feature for Glamour magazine’s issue celebrating the show’s 40th anniversary.

The feature includes Laraine Newman, Kristen Wiig, Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Tina Fey, Sasheer Zamata, Jane Curtin, Cecily Strong, Colin Jost, Kate McKinnon, Rachel Dratch, Michael Che, Aidy Bryant, Casey Wilson, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Vanessa Bayer, Leslie Jones, and Taran Killam.

Here’s what the cast had to share:

Kristen, on auditioning for SNL: “Auditioning for SNL is the most nervous I’ve ever been in my life. It was terrifying.”

Amy, on doing scenes with her fellow female cast members: “Every time I did a scene with the other ladies, it felt like a highlight. And if it was a stinker, it was almost more fun to think about how we would laugh about it later.”

Tina, on succeeding at SNL: “It’s understood that everyone comes in and has to write for themselves. That’s the difference between getting handed the part of the stewardess and getting to play what you think is funny. You’re not going to stay up all night to give yourself one wife line.”

Sasheer Zamata: 'Saturday Night Live' Casts a Black Female Comedian!

Sasheer Zamata has landed the coveted new spot on the cast of Saturday Night Live after an extensive search was done to find a new female black comedian, according to Deadline.

The sketch comedy series has not had a female black performer on the show since Maya Rudolph left the cast five years ago and there has been much controversy over the absence of diversity on the show.

Sasheer‘s name has reportedly floated around the SNL casting office in the past and she was one of twelve ladies who tested for the position last month on the stage at Rockefeller Center. She will be one of the featured performers on the show this season.
