Shaquille O'Neal Tells His Sons This On What To Say To Police

Shaquille O’Neal is opening up about what he tells his sons about police in light of George Floyd‘s tragic murder.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 48-year-old basketball great revealed that there are things he’s told his sons, Shareef and Shaqir, and step son, Myles, on how to speak to police when they are out.

“I have that talk with them all the time. I tell them, first of all, you have to try to defuse the situation by showing respect,” Shaq explained. “Because you have to understand that these people are also out here doing their jobs.”

He also advises them to turn to him, if things should happen to get violent.

“If it happens to get rough, don’t say anything, don’t do anything, just comply. And then when all is said and done, you call me, and if stuff gets out of hand, then I will handle it,” Shaq says. “I will be the one to come around and act crazy. I don’t want you to act crazy while you’re out there by yourself. So I just try to tell them, just comply, just listen, but a lot of times that doesn’t work either.”

If you don’t know, Shaq is a sheriff’s deputy in Georgia and was sworn in 2016, and is also an auxiliary deputy in Florida in 2019.

He went through the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Reserve Academy during his time playing for the L.A. Lakers.

Shaquille O'Neal's Super Bowl Event Proceeds Will Be Donated To Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Foundation

Shaquille O’Neal has announced that his Super Bowl event this weekend will benefit the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Foundation.

After remembering Kobe in a touching speech earlier this week, the basketball player opened up about hosting the sports event in Kobe‘s honor

“Been going back and forth the past couple of days on if I should even have my event in Miami this weekend. Part of me wanted to stay to myself as I reflect what my brother and his family mean to me and my family,” Shaq wrote on Twitter.

He continued, “Kobe would want us to push through and celebrate life. So lets do just that. I’ll be dedicating and donating all my proceeds from Friday nights Fun House to all the families who lost loved ones and to the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Foundation.”

“Together we will celebrate all those who lost their lives in Sundays tragedy. Rip to my brother, my friend and my homie. The Black Mama. Until we meet again.”
