News spread this week that the 45-year-old had tragically passed away, but People is now confirming the official cause of death is a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Medical Examiner. He was found dead in a Miami, Florida motel room on Tuesday (January 7).

America Ferrera is speaking out following the death of Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta.

Silvio died by apparent suicide at the age of 45 on Tuesday (January 7).

“I’m stunned and heartbroken to hear the devastating news of Ugly Betty creator, Silvio Horta’s death,” the 35-year-old Ugly Betty actress wrote on Instagram. “His talent and creativity brought me and so many others such joy & light.”

America Ferrera added, “I’m thinking of his family and loved ones who must be in so much pain right now- and of the whole Ugly Betty family who feel this loss so deeply.”

Her co-star Michael Urie tweeted, “I will be forever indebted to this sweet, brilliant man. 💔,” while star Vanessa Williams shared, “Still in shock after hearing the tragic news of our #uglybetty creator #silviohorta 💔 His creativity and passion will be missed by so many of us that worked with him. May he Rest In Peace.”

Star Christopher Gorham also said, “Silvio Horta gave me two of the greatest opportunities in my career with Jake 2.0 and Ugly Betty. I will be forever grateful for his creativity, his enormous heart, and his friendship. His family was his world and my heart goes out to them tonight. Let’s all take care of each other.”

Silvio Horta Dead - 'Ugly Betty' Creator Dies by Apparent Suicide at 45 (Report)

Silvio Horta has sadly passed away at the age of 45.

The creator, head writer, and executive producer of ABC’s Ugly Betty series was found dead by an apparent suicide in a motel room on Tuesday (January 7) Miami, Variety reports.

Silvio reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Ugly Betty – starring America Ferrera and adapted from the Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea – ran for four seasons 2006 to 2010.

Silvio‘s other TV credits include The Chronicle and Jake 2.0. He also wrote the screenplay for Urban Legend.
