David Ayer is looking back on one of his biggest movies, which wound up being one of his biggest disappointments – Suicide Squad.
The director tackled the 2016 movie, which starred the likes of Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Viola Davis and Cara Delevingne. Despite being a box office hit, it was largely panned by critics. David was not involved with the sequel, which premiered in 2021 and was directed by James Gunn.
During a recent interview, the director opened up about the experience, explaining how it “broke” him.

Back in 2016, rumors began circulating that Jared Leto was so committed to his role as the Joker that he sent his co-star Margot Robbie a gift box with a live rat inside.
The highly anticipated film, which stars a ton of celebs including Joel Kinnaman, Idris Elba and John Cena, is being teased in a “leak” by the cast on Tuesday (June 22).
Idris is a new addition as Bloodsport, while John joins as Peacemaker. Sylvester Stallone is the voice of King Shark.
The new trailer shows how Amanda Waller (Davis) convinces Bloodsport (Elba) to join her team, who is in prison for shooting Superman with a Kryptonite bullet. She also explains their mission is to “destroy every trace” of something called Project Starfish.
Here’s a plot summary: “Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement.
