The Royals From 'A Christmas Prince' Show Up in 'Princess Switch 2' & Fans Are Getting Confused About Netflix's Christmas Movie Connections

If you watched The Princess Switch: Switched Again on Netflix this weekend, you weren’t alone – and you also weren’t alone in your surprise when King Richard and Queen Amber from A Christmas Prince show up!

Fans all across social media were first delighted when they saw the Aldovian royal family at Duchess Margaret’s coronation.

But that turned to confusion about how Netflix’s Christmas movies were all connected, since in the first Princess Switch movie, Margaret and Kevin actually watched A Christmas Prince on Netflix in the movie. But now, Amber and Richard are there in real life!

Last year, it was revealed that it’s not just these two movies that are connected.

The Knight Before Christmas (also starring Vanessa Hudgens), Holiday Calendar, The Christmas Inheritance, and Holiday in the Wild are also entangled in the Christmas Movie Universe.

“It felt like a natural fit to show one of our other films available on Netflix,” Amanda Phillips Atkins, EVP of production company MPCA that produced the films, shared about the connections. “That one seed of an idea soon turned into fun opportunity to tie the various worlds together with small easter eggs from movie to movie.”

Netflix even put together a map of just how they all were connected. See it here!

While the Christmas Movie Universe might be glitching a bit, fans are still here for the connections and have some brilliant ideas for the future movies.

Vanessa Hudgens Says This Will Not Happen in 'Princess Switch 3': 'I'd 100% Lose My Mind'

Vanessa Hudgens is about to leave to start filming the third Princess Switch movie really soon and just revealed what won’t be happening in the movie – another her!

“No, no, that’s just too outrageous,” the 31-year-old actress shared with The Wrap about the possibility of a fourth look a like popping up in the Netflix film. “We’re already at max outrageous here with three characters, we’re just going to keep it at that.”

Vanessa added that if they added another doppelganger to the mix in the Scottish-based movie, which will be released next Christmas season, she’d “100% lose my mind if I tried to add another me.”

Although, she has an idea of what that look a like would be like: “It would probably be Scottish [and] I love that accent and it would be a great excuse to master the Scottish accent. But no, that’s not happening.”

In Princess Switch 2, which makes its debut TODAY, Vanessa will play three roles – the new Princess Stacy, Duchess Margaret, and party girl Fiona, who pops up to cause a little trouble.

“It definitely had its moments of frustration,” she says about the second movie. “But what do you expect when you’re playing three characters?”

Vanessa Hudgens Stars as Stacy, Margaret & Fiona in 'The Princess Switch 2's Trailer!

Vanessa Hudgens makes her debut as the third look-a-like, Fiona, in the new trailer for The Princess Switch 2!

The upcoming movie centers on Duchess Margaret as she inherits the throne to Montenaro, but is not dating Kevin anymore.

Princess Stacy of Belgravia, who married Edward, is hoping to reconnect them and plans to pull off another princess switch – but Fiona’s arrival complicates the situation.

“After I read it I thought, ‘Ooh man, this is going to be a lot of work,’” Vanessa previously told Entertainment Weekly about the trio of roles she stars in. “Three of me? Me, myself, and I! I was very excited to create yet another character and had such a blast doing so. I was told they wrote in a new character but I had no idea how much fun it would actually be.”

The Princess Switch 2 will premiere on November 19 on Netflix.

Here's How Eight of Netflix's Christmas Movies Including 'A Christmas Prince' & 'The Knight Before Christmas' Are Connected

Netflix has revealed that a handful of their holiday films are actually in the same universe.

Amanda Phillips Atkins, EVP of production company MPCA that produced the films, has revealed that the three movies of A Christmas Prince, Holiday Calendar, The Christmas Inheritance, The Princess Switch and newest movies, The Knight Before Christmas and Holiday in the Wild, are connected.

“It felt like a natural fit to show one of our other films available on Netflix,” she shared recently. “That one seed of an idea soon turned into fun opportunity to tie the various worlds together with small easter eggs from movie to movie.”

The connection actually started with Holiday Calendar, where a glimpse of Christmas Inheritance is seen.

Then, it blossomed into making something more than just a little shot of another movie within the movie.

“We planned to branch out from just having our characters watch each other on TV,” Amanda added. “We thought it would be a great opportunity to build out a whole universe, not just for Aldovia but for the whole world of our Christmas movies.”

“It’s been so fun to watch the reactions as fans discover the tie-ins with each release,” she adds.
