James Gunn had something totally different planned for The Suicide Squad!
Fans of the movie will know that the group goes head-to-head against Starro The Conqueror, a giant intergalactic starfish who threatens to take over people’s minds.
In a new interview with Script Apart, the director revealed that he originally considered a very different villain in mind for the film – one of DC’s most famous superheroes!

The Warner Bros. DC Comics movie debuted at $26.5 million at the domestic box office over the past weekend, Deadline reported Sunday (August 8), which is both good and bad news for the studio.

Earlier this week, many of the cast member stepped out on the red carpet for the film’s Los Angeles premiere and we have all the photos from the event.
We counted 18 members of the star-studded cast on the red carpet, including returning stars Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney.
Other cast members at the event included John Cena (who dressed up in his character’s costume!), Sylvester Stallone, Storm Reid, Taika Waititi, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Julio Cesar Ruiz, John Ostrander, and Mikaela Hoover.
Also in attendance at the premiere was writer and director James Gunn, who is putting his signature spin on the DC Comics property. The movie hits theaters and HBO Max on Friday and it has great reviews with a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes right now.

Darren Barnet just made his first official appearance on the red carpet with girlfriend Mikaela Hoover.
The 30-year-old Never Have I Ever actor stepped out to support Mikaela, 37, at the premiere of her new movie The Suicide Squad on Monday (August 2) at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles.
Darren and Mikaela appear to have been dating since at least last year as they shared photos together on Canadian Thanksgiving in October 2020.
A few weeks ago, Darren celebrated Mikaela‘s birthday on Instagram with a cozy photo. He wrote, “Happy birthday, love. Today is for you.” She responded in the comments and said, “Thank you baby! I am so grateful for our little life we created♥️.”
Darren is best known for playing Paxton Hall-Yoshida in the Netflix series Never Have I Ever. The second season debuted just days ago. Mikaela plays Camila in The Suicide Squad, which hits theaters on Friday.
Mikaela previously dated actor Nathan Fillion, who also stars in The Suicide Squad.

Leslie Grace is the newest member of the DC Comics Extended Universe family and she just appeared at her first big event as part of the franchise!
The 26-year-old singer and actress walked the red carpet at the premiere of The Suicide Squad on Monday night (August 2) at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles.
Leslie will be playing the role of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the upcoming standalone film for HBO Max. She won the role after four actresses reportedly did screen tests for the project.
Most recently, Leslie was seen as Nina Rosario in the movie musical In the Heights.
FYI: Leslie is wearing a Roberto Cavalli dress and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
