Valene Kane stars in the new movie Profile and we caught up with the actress to learn more about making the inventive project.

Fans might already know Valene from her work in the BBC Two series The Fall, the Star Wars film Rogue One, and the movie Sonja: The White Swan.

The Irish actress plays a British journalist who is on a quest to bait and expose a terrorist recruiter through social media, while trying not to be sucked in by her recruiter and lured into becoming a militant extremist herself.

The unconventional film plays out entirely on a computer screen in the Screenlife format, pioneered by director Timur Bekmambetov.

We talked about to Valene about what it was like filming a movie using the Screenlife format, how the project affected her relationship with social media, what she learned about journalism, how she kept sane in quarantine, and more.

The new movie Profile looks like it’s going to be a nail-biting thriller based on the suspenseful trailer that was just released!

The film, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, follows an undercover British journalist (Valene Kane) in her quest to bait and expose a terrorist recruiter (Shazad Latif) through social media, while trying not to be sucked in by her recruiter and lured into becoming a militant extremist herself.

The unconventional thriller plays out entirely on a computer screen in the Screenlife format, pioneered by Bekmambetov. The Screenlife format will look similar to fans of John Cho‘s movie Searching and that’s because Bekmambetov produced that movie as well!

Valene is best known for her work in the BBC Two series The Fall.

Profile, which had its world premiere at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival, hits theaters on May 14. Watch the trailer below!

Valene Kane walks the carpet at the premiere of her new movie Sonja: The White Swan during the 2019 Sundance Film Festival on Tuesday (January 29) at the Eccles Center Theatre in Park City, Utah.

The 32-year-old actress was joined at the premiere by producer Synnove Horsdal and director Anne Sewitsky.

The movie is about Sonja Henie (played by Ine Marie Wilmann), who is one of the world’s greatest athletes and goes to Hollywood to become a movie star in 1936. Her dreams come true just a year later, but the spotlight fades away as she gets older.

Over the weekend, Valene stepped out for the SAGindie Sundance Actors Only Brunch at Cafe Terigo.

FYI: Valene is wearing a Mashama dress at the premiere.

Here’s what the 31-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On why she chose her role in Sonja: The White Swan: “I’m very into familial, complicated, dark stories. I just like real life stuff. This is such an epic, but the story is a very human one. I play a very working-class girl who moves to Hollywood. Maybe she wanted to be an actress at some point, but she ended up in a typing pool.”

On her teenage determination to become an actor: “I went to the National Youth Theatre when I was 14. I still don’t know how my parents let me do that; they were quite strict…It changed my life. Because I saw that it was a possibility. That I could go to drama school. The little girl form Newry could do this.”

On still facing hardship in her career: “It’s not easy; it’s still really hard, and tough. Last week I got a huge yes to a HBO series, but on the same day I got a no to a feature film that I’d been waiting on for weeks, and I wanted it so bad, and it was an amazing director. So I had this day of ‘I’m unsure, what am I feeling?’”

On the importance of female friendships: “I have such close girls in my life. My girls from home who I grew up with, went to school with, are still my best friends. Without my WhatsApp groups I would be in a very dire situation. All over the world, I’m able to reach in and go ‘ooooh, help, what do I do in this situation?’”

Irish actress and rising star Valene Kane has landed an exciting new role!

The 31-year-old actress has joined the cast of the UK crime-thriller series Gangs of London, according to Deadline.

Gangs of London, being produced by Cinemax and Sky Atlantic, is “set in contemporary London as it is being torn apart by power struggles involving several international gangs.”

The series will have ten episodes and it “begins as the head of one criminal gang is assassinated and the power vacuum threatens the fragile peace between the other underworld organizations.”

Valene, best known for her work on The Fall and in the movie Sonja: The White Swan, will play the daughter of Michelle Fairley‘s character in the new show.

The stars were out in attendance at the 2018 Pre-Emmy Party hosted by Entertainment Weekly and L’Oreal Paris at Sunset Tower on Saturday night (September 15) in Los Angeles.

Emmy nominees Sarah Paulson (for American Horror Story) and Sterling K. Brown (for This Is Us), with his wife Ryan Michelle Bathe, were just two of the stars seen at the party. You may remember, Sarah and Sterling co-starred in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, and they both won Emmys for their performances!

In addition, Orange is the New Black stars Laverne Cox, Selenis Leyva, and Dascha Polanco, as well as American Horror Story stars Adina Porter (nominee), Leslie Grossman, and Naomi Grossman were all seen in attendance. Other stars seen checking out the party were Sophia Bush, Malin Akerman, Busy Philipps, Jennifer Morrison, This Is Us‘ Justin Hartley, Westworld‘s Angela Sarafyan, and Samira Wiley (who already won an Emmy this week for her work in The Handmaid’s Tale!)
