White House Correspondents Dinner 2021 Cancelled

The annual White House Correspondents Dinner, which takes place in April of every year, has been cancelled this year.

“We have worked through any number of scenarios over the last several months, but to put it plainly: while improving rapidly, the COVID-19 landscape is just not at a place where we could make the necessary decisions to go ahead with such a large indoor event,” the organization said in a statement (via Variety). “Dinner or not, we will spend the next few months celebrating and honoring the First Amendment, the remarkable journalism produced over the last year and the promising young reporters who will serve as the next generation in our ranks.”

The 2020 event was also cancelled due to Coronavirus. Trump repeatedly skipped the event when he was President.

President Obama Takes Jabs at Donald Trump & Other Potential Candidates at White House Correspondents' Dinner (Video)

President Obama waves to the crowd while walking to the microphone for his speech at the 2016 White House Correspondents’ Dinner held at the Washington Hilton on Saturday (April 30) in Washington, D.C.

The 54-year-old Commander-in-Chief left no potential Presidential candidates out as he took jabs at Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz, and more.

“The Republican establishment is incredulous that he’s the likely nominee. Shocking!” he said. “They say Donald lacks the foreign policy experience to be president. But in fairness, he has spent years meeting with leaders from around the world: Ms Sweden, Ms. Argentina, Ms. Azerbaijan.”

Obama also joked, “Alright, that’s probably enough. I’ve got more material. I don’t want to spend too much time on the Donald. Following [the press'] lead, I want to show some restraint. Because I think we can all agree, from the start, he’s got the appropriate amount of coverage befitting his candidacy. I hope you all are proud of yourselves.”
