Jessica Chastain's 'Eve' Replaces Controversial Director After Assault Accusations

Jessica Chastain‘s upcoming film Eve has gotten a new director after facing backlash for their original choice.

Matthew Newton dropped out of the indie action movie after he was faced with accusations of assault and domestic violence dating back to 2007.

His decision to leave the film was spurred on by a petition asking Jessica to remove him from the project amid the accusations, which included “two unprovoked assaults” against his then-fiancee Rachael Taylor.

Matthew has been replaced by Tate Taylor, who directed Jessica‘s 2011 Oscar nominated The Help.

In addition to starring in the film, Jessica will also produce.

Octavia Spencer to Star in Horror Movie from 'The Help' Director Tate Taylor!

Octavia Spencer is set to play a completely different type of role in the upcoming horror movie Ma, which will reunite her with The Help director Tate Taylor.

The film is being described as a horror film and a psychological thriller in one.

“It’s dark material, but it’s also really fun,” Tate told Variety. “Octavia is so damn likable that we usually see her in certain roles. But she’s such a good actress and this is such a complex character that if I do my job right, people in the audience are going to want to push pause and say, ‘Can we please take you out for coffee so you don’t do what you’re about to do.’”

The movie will be filmed at Tate‘s mansion in Mississippi and production begins this Monday. Also starring are Luke Evans and Juliette Lewis.

Octavia once lived with Tate while they were both trying to make it in the business and they plan on staying together while filming!

“It’s going to be a blast,” he said. “We’ll be living in my house in Mississippi and shooting on my land during the day, and then making dinner and telling stories and breaking bread later that night.”
