Amber Heard's Lawyer Responds to Johnny Depp's Claim That She Pocketed Divorce Money, Which She Promised to Donate

A new report claims that Amber Heard has not delivered on the promise to donate her full $7 million divorce settlement from Johnny Depp to charity.

The 34-year-old actress promised back in 2016 that she was going to donate $3.5 million to both Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union.

Daily Mail has shared documents from CHLA that show Amber has only donated $100,000 so far to the organization, despite the charity reaching out to her in 2019 to ask if she still intended on delivering the remaining amount. The outlet says that Johnny‘s lawyers believe the promise to donate the money was a “sham.”

Now, Amber‘s lawyers are speaking out in response to the story.

Amber‘s lawyers claim that Johnny‘s team planted the story with Daily Mail in hopes of helping in his efforts to get a new trial against The Sun as part of the “wife beater” case, which he previously lost.

“Mr. Depp’s effort to plant stories in the media criticizing Amber for not yet fulfilling all the donations she pledged to charity is yet another desperate attempt to divert attention from the UK Court’s findings relating to allegations of Mr. Depp committing domestic abuse and violence,” her lawyer Elaine Bredehoft told Deadline.

The lawyer also explained why Amber hasn’t donated the full amount yet.

“Amber has already been responsible for seven figures in donations to charitable causes and intends to continue to contribute and eventually fulfill her pledge,” the lawyer added. “However, Amber has been delayed in that goal because Mr. Depp filed a lawsuit against her, and consequently, she has been forced to spend millions of dollars defending Mr. Depp’s false accusations against her.”

Johnny‘s lawyers haven’t released a formal statement about the claims, but Deadline did find an online comment that the actor’s longtime legal advisor Adam Waldman allegedly made in response to the statement from Amber‘s lawyer.

In response to the lawyer saying that Amber will “eventually fulfill her pledge,” he said, “is that the same thing as a 4 year media spasm of the $7m charitable donation? Is that the same thing that was said in court under oath? No, it is not the same thing.”
