Hillary Clinton Reacts To Harvey Weinstein's Guilty Verdict: 'It Was Time for An Accounting'

Hillary Clinton is sharing her thoughts on Harvey Weinstein‘s guilty verdict.

“The jury’s verdict [in the Weinstein trial] really speaks for itself,” the former US Secretary of State and First Lady expressed (via Variety) while attending the photo call and press conference for her docu-series Hillary held during the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival at Grand Hyatt Hotel on Tuesday (February 25).

Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of committing a criminal sexual act and third-degree rape. The charges and verdict come almost two years after the former producer was accused of sexual harassment, assault or rape.

“It is obviously something that people have looked at and followed, because it was time for an accounting and the jury clearly found that,” Hillary said at the Berlin Film Festival.

When asked if the Weinstein verdict will cause politicians to think more carefully about the donations they accept from senior figures in the entertainment industry, Hillary said she doesn’t think it will “chill” the donations process.

“He contributed to every Democrat’s campaign — he contributed to Barack Obama’s campaign, John Kerry’s campaign, Al Gore’s campaign, everyone’s campaign,” she said. “I don’t know whether that should chill anyone else from contributing to political campaigns but it should certainly end the kind of behavior for which he was convicted for.”

Hillary Clinton Confirms She Will Support Any Democratic Nominee at 2020 Presidential Election!

Hillary Clinton is all smiles as she strikes a pose on the red carpet at the premiere of her new docu-series Hillary held during the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival held at Haus Der Berliner Festspiele on Monday (February 24) in Berlin, Germany.

At the red carpet premiere, the former Democratic presidential nominee denounced President Donald Trump as a “danger to democracy,” warned that Russia would once again try to influence the presidential election in 2020, and said she would back any candidate taking on Trump.

“I will support the nominee of our party because I think that our current president is a clear and present danger to democracy and to our future,” Hillary told journalists at the Berlin Film Festival, while refusing to endorse any specific candidate, saying she would “leave that to the voters.”

Hillary also said that her new documentary would tell “the real story” of her political career: “It shows the story of how hard political change is,” she said. “That is an important story, because in a democracy, if you get discouraged and you give up on it, that leads to voices of extremism promising all sorts of things.”

The Hulu docuseries premieres March 6 – Watch the trailer HERE!

Riz Ahmed Talks Diverse Filmmaking at Berlin Film Fest: 'The Time For Asking Permission To Tell Our Stories Is Over'

Riz Ahmed keeps it cute in a colorful sweatshirt while attending the photo call for his latest film Mogul Mowgli held during the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival at Grand Hyatt Hotel on (February 21) in Berlin, Germany.

The 37-yeare-old actor was joined at the event by his co-stars Aiysha Hart, Nabhaan Rizwan, Alyy Khan, Sudha Bhuchar and Hussain Manawer, as well as producers Thomas Benski, Bennett McGhee and Michael Peay, and director Bassam Tariq.

Alongside starring, Riz serves as a producer through his company Left Handed Films and came up with the idea with director Bassam, the pair co-wrote the screenplay together.

Riz plays Zed, a rapper on the cusp of fame who is suddenly struck down by a debilitating illness on the eve of his breakthrough tour, according to Deadline. “Haunted by religious iconography, he tries to come to terms with his heritage and his future.”

“Often, people are making films thinking about finding audiences. But sometimes the strongest, most uncompromising stories are told without any of that in mind,” Riz Ahmed expressed at the Berlin Film Festival. “They’re told because you have an artist at the center of it who has to tell the story, has to get something off their chest, that’s how this felt. At a moment when there is so much attention being put on artists and creators of color, how many portraits of these artists have we really had?”

“I feel like the time for asking people’s permission to tell our stories is over, it’s about stepping up and saying, as storytellers who are women or people of colour, ‘we have to do this ourselves’,” Riz continued. “We see the talent out there, we see the demand out there, it’s about creating a bridge.”
