Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford are bringing their hit Broadway play to London’s West End!

After receiving universal critical and public acclaim for Sunday in the Park with George, the two stars will be reprising their roles when the production of the play debuts at London’s Savoy Theatre beginning on June 11, 2020.

“Performing Sunday in the Park with George with the brilliant Annaleigh Ashford was one of the greatest joys of my career,” Jake said in a statement. “I’ve also deeply missed the West End and so to be bringing Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical there alongside Annaleigh is both humbling and thrilling.”

Sunday in the Park with George follows painter Georges Seurat (Gyllenhaal) in the months leading up to the completion of his most famous painting – A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. Consumed by his need to “finish the hat”, Seurat alienates the French bourgeoisie, spurns his fellow artists, and neglects his lover Dot (Ashford), not realizing that his actions will reverberate for the next 100 years.

The actor celebrated his 41st birthday as he stepped out for the opening of Much Ado About Nothing on Tuesday night (June 11) at the Delacorte Theater in New York City.

Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale hold hands while walking the red carpet at the opening of the Off-Broadway play Socrates on Tuesday (April 16) in New York City.

The couple was joined at the event by Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford, who Rose worked with in the Broadway play You Can’t Take It With You back in 2014.

Socrates was written by Tim Blake Nelson and it’s “an intellectual thrill ride from the philosopher’s growing prominence in democratic Athens through the military and social upheavals that led to one of the most infamous executions in Western history.”

It was recently announced that Ryan will be turning the Broadway musical into a new movie event for Netflix.

The 39-year-old Broadway star looked handsome in a gray, plaid shirt as he stepped out for opening night of the musical.
