Charles Shaughnessy Reveals Fran Drescher Has A Brilliant Idea For 'The Nanny' Reboot

Charles Shaughnessy is spilling just a few The Nanny secrets.

The 66-year-old actor spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the fan favorite show, which is now streaming on HBO Max, and revealed that Fran Drescher has some ideas on how to reboot the series.

“We’ve talked about it, and she actually had a really, really, I thought, genius idea,” Charles shared. “I just thought, ‘This was very smart.’ That’s all I’ll say.”

He added that he’s “very hesitant about anything” involving a reboot of the series. “[But] I heard that and went, ‘Oh, that’ll work.’”

Charles did open up about what led to the end of The Nanny in the first place and that was giving fans what they really wanted – Fran and Maxwell together.

“The fans wanted us to get together. The network definitely wanted us to get married, [but] we knew that that was kind of a death knell,” he shared. “When you’ve got a relationship built on this sexual tension, getting married is like the last thing you want to do…so, I think we kind of we did it but were like, ‘Oh well.’”

After the series debuted on HBO Max, fans were shocked to find out that this actor starred on it!

'The Nanny' Original Cast to Reunite for a Table Read

The Nanny is back – but not in the way you’d expect.

Fran Drescher and the cast of the original series are returning for a virtual table read, Variety reports.

The virtual table read will take place on Monday, April 6 via Zoom, and will be posted on the Sony Pictures YouTube page.

“Laughter is the best medicine! So, in these challenging times, Petah and I thought, wouldn’t it be great if we pulled together the original cast of ‘The Nanny’ for a virtual read of the pilot?” Fran shared about the reunion in a statement, referring to the show’s co-creator, Peter Marc Jacobson.

She added, “It’s a once in a lifetime Pandemic Performance for our fans around the world who are currently stressing in isolation and could use a real upper! It sure has given each of us a lift and we hope it does for you as well.”

Fran will reunite with Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis, Lauren Lane, Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury, Madeline Zima, Renee Taylor, Alex Sternin, Ann Hampton Callaway, DeeDee Rescher, Rachel Chagall and Jonathan Penner.

We can’t wait for this!
