Fans were hoping that Karl Lagerfeld‘s beloved cat would make a red carpet appearance at the 2023 Met Gala. However, it was not meant to be.

If you were unaware, the late designer and his artistry inspired the theme for the biggest night in fashion this year. Karl passed away in 2019, but his pet Choupette is still alive and well.

There were rumors that she would make an appearance in his memory, but she released a statement a few hours before the event began letting fans know why she’d be missing out.

A cockroach ended up being the most unexpected guest of the night at the 2023 Met Gala.

The critter made an appearance on the red carpet at one point during fashion’s biggest night on Monday evening (May 1) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
