JoJo Announces Broadway Debut With Role in 'Moulin Rouge' - See When She'll Take the Stage & Who She'll be Playing

JoJo is headed to Broadway!

The 32-year-old “Too Little Too Late” pop star hopped on social media to reveal that she was making her Broadway debut in a limited number of performances of Moulin Rouge.

She’s set to take over the role of Satine from Ashley Loren, and JoJo‘s first performance in the role is only a couple of weeks away.

Watch Conor Ryan Belt Out 'El Tango De Roxanne' for Moulin Rouge's Corden Performance!

The touring cast of the Broadway musical Moulin Rouge made their national television debut last night!

Conor Ryan, who plays Christian in the tour cast, led the performance of “El Tango De Roxanne” on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday (August 25) in Los Angeles.

The tour is currently playing at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood for one more week before moving to San Francisco.

Moulin Rouge won 10 Tony Awards last year, including Best Musical. There are currently productions running on Broadway, on London’s West End, and in Australia, in addition to the U.S. national tour.

Courtney Reed is currently playing the lead role of Satine in Moulin Rouge‘s National Tour production and we caught up with her to learn some fun facts that fans might not know.

Courtney originated the role of Princess Jasmine in the Broadway production of Aladdin and received a Grammy nomination for her work.

Now, Courtney is leading the tour of this Tony-winning musical as Satine, a role previously played by Nicole Kidman in the film and Karen Olivo in the original Broadway cast.

  1. My mother is Vietnamese but was born and raised in Thailand. She moved to the States when she was 18.

Conor Ryan is currently starring in the National Tour of the Tony-winning musical Moulin Rouge and we caught up with the rising star to learn more about him!

Previously, Conor starred in the off-Broadway revival of John & Jen and was featured in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

Now, Conor is leading the tour of Moulin Rouge as Christian, a role previously played by Ewan McGregor in the film and Aaron Tveit in the original Broadway cast.

  1. I was a home birth. My Dad cut the umbilical cord and my older siblings were in the room!
  2. Growing up, we lived in California, Colorado, and Rhode Island. My mom picked beautiful places and the lady just couldn’t sit still.
  3. My first role was Snoopy in You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown when I was 9. This was a major moment when I discovered I was good at being onstage.
  4. I went to an arts summer camp in the Rocky Mountains starting when I was ten. At that age, I was super into dancing and thought I wanted to join the ballet! The Delacorte Theatre reminds me of my camp, and I am absolutely dying to work there.
  5. I’ve never had a license! My excuse is that I went to a boarding performing arts school in Boston, but really, I just never really had any interest… LOL. Ubers, Driverless Cars, take me away!

Winners Aaron Tveit & Danny Burstein Perform the 'Moulin Rouge' Opening at Tony Awards 2020 - Watch Now!

The cast of Moulin Rouge gave an incredible performance at the Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back concert!

Tony Award winners Aaron Tveit and Danny Burstein led the performance, which was held live at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Sunday night (September 26) in New York City.

The cast performed the “Welcome to the Moulin Rouge” opening number, which features snippets of the songs “Lady Marmalade,” “So Fresh, So Clean,” “Rhythm of the Night,” and “Because We Can.”

The opening number concluded with Natalie Mendoza appearing from the ceiling for her grand entrance as Satine.

Moulin Rouge has already won nine awards during the show and it’s most likely going to pick up the Best Musical prize at the end of the night.

Moulin Rouge's Danny Burstein Gives Touching Speech Honoring Late Wife Rebecca Luker at Tony Awards 2020

Danny Burstein has finally won a Tony Award!

The 57-year-old actor picked up his first win after seven nominations at the 2020 Tony Awards on Sunday (September 26) at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

Danny won the award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance as Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge.

Also pictured in the gallery is his co-star Robyn Hurder, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical.

During his speech, Danny paid tribute to late wife Rebecca Luker, who died in December 2020 from ALS complications.

“I want to thank all of you, because, whether you know it or not, my wife passed away in December of ALS, and you all showed up for us. You were there for us, whether you just sent a note or sent your love, sent your prayers — sent bagels — it meant the world to us, and it’s something I’ll never forget,” he said.

Danny‘s son Alexander was his date to the show.

'Moulin Rouge' Returns to Broadway After 18 Months - Watch Videos from Reopening Night!

Moulin Rouge is back on Broadway after 18 months!

The Tony-nominated musical had its reopening night on Friday (September 24) at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City.

Aaron Tveit, new cast member Natalie Mendoza, and Danny Burstein are all pictured taking their bows during the special evening on Broadway.

Moulin Rouge is nominated for Best Musical and many other awards at tomorrow night’s Tony Awards. The show is expected to pick up a lot of wins!
